‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Renewed for Season 3 by Hulu

A week after returning for its second season, “The Handmaid’s Tale” was renewed for a third, Hulu announced on Wednesday.

The Emmy-winning drama premiered the first two episodes of its sophomore season on April 25.

The series stars Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Madeline Brewer and Ann Dowd. It is based on Margaret Atwood’s acclaimed 1985 novel that imagines a dystopian future where women are subjugated, though it exhausted all of its source material in the first season.

Atwood will still have a say in how the story continues to play out past her novel, however. After serving as a supervising producer on the first season, and a consultant this season, Atwood will be a co-executive producer for Season 3. “The Handmaid’s Tale” is executive produced by Bruce Miller (who serves as showrunner), Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken and Moss.

The”Handmaid’s Tale’s” debut season couldn’t have gone any better for Hulu. The series became the first from a streamer to take home Best Drama at the Emmys (the show took home eight in total including Best Actress for Moss) and the Golden Globes.
