New Hampshire Art Educators names New Hampshire Art Educator of the Year
ALTON — The New Hampshire Art Educators Association has named Troy Corriveau as the New Hampshire Art Educator of the Year for 2023 – 2024. Mr. Corriveau is an Art Educator at Prospect Mountain High School in Alton, N.H., where he brings a solid knowledge of art teaching practices, endless creative energy, and a deep caring for his students. Corriveau believes that getting involved in leadership best serves his students. He is advisor for the school’s National Art Honor Society, a Department Head and Curriculum leader, encourages all of his students to participate in programs such as The Scholastic Art Awards of NH, and the statewide Student Art Month program, as well as local exhibitions of their work. Catherine Fraser, Library Media Specialist, comments: “Troy advocates strongly for his programs. He participates in the (school) leadership team, and was instrumental in the design of the new schedule, implemented this year at Prospect Mountain H.S. Troy always keeps the integrity of his program foremost in his mind.”
Mr. Corriveau has also contributed his creative energy and teaching skill to higher education, joining the adjunct faculty at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2013, and continuing his association as the college became the Institute of art and Design at New England College in Henniker in 2020, as an instructor of Art Teaching Methods at the Secondary Level. He cherishes his ability to nurture and prepare future art educators to bring their caring and expertise to their own students.
As National Art Honor Society advisor, Corriveau is active in bringing his students out into the community to share their knowledge and talents. Students regularly exhibit at the Alton Senior Center, Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Barnstead, and the Gilman Library in Alton. Troy has also recently taken a leadership role in the New Hampshire Art Educators Association, chairing the Student Art Month committee. His enthusiasm and creative approach has led to innovations in the program that have enhanced student engagement and visibility. This year S.A.M. presented NH student artwork at a Fisher Cats game on the big screen!
Corriveau is a dedicated and enthusiastic art educator who also makes time to create and exhibit his own artwork at a number of galleries and art centers around the state including the Sharon Arts Center, Lakes Region Community College, Portsmouth Music and Art Center, and the University of New Hampshire.
Mr. Corriveau’s teaching philosophy states: “I have found students learn most effectively through personalized active learning that relies on the teacher facilitating and coaching them through their learning journey. This approach requires the teacher to listen to determine what the student needs as well what their strengths and challenges are in order for (teachers) to be effective facilitators and learning coaches.”
Congratulations to Troy Corriveau New Hampshire Art Educator of the Year! He will be honored at the 2023 NHAEA Fall Conference at New England College, at the 2024 NAEA National Conference in Minneapolis, Minn., and at the 2024 EDies Awards in Manchester, N.H.
