Oklahoma City is getting another shot at "Hamilton."

Lin-Manuel Miranda's smash musical returns to Civic Center Music Hall as part of OKC Broadway's newly announced 2022-2023 season.

The upcoming subscription season for the local presenter of nationally touring Broadway shows also will include the OKC debuts of the Tony and Grammy winner "Hadestown," the movie musical "Tootsie" and the stage version of the Disney blockbuster "Frozen," along with the return of hit titles "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Hairspray."

In addition to the six-show subscription lineup, OKC Broadway — a presentation of The Nederlander Organization and Civic Center Foundation — announced March 31 that it will bring back by popular demand "Cats" and "The Book of Mormon" as added season specials.

“OKC Broadway’s mission to bring the biggest hits and most recent Tony Award-winning shows is back in full force," said Elizabeth Gray, general manager of OKC Broadway and executive director of the Civic Center Foundation, in a statement.

"The 2022-2023 season has an incredible number of award-winning hits — from epic blockbusters and brand-new musicals to beloved revivals. We are also able to bring back the shows most-requested by our patrons. There is truly something for everyone, and we’re so excited."

New OKC Broadway season ticket packages are on sale April 1 at www.okcbroadway.com or 877-737-2929.

OKC's current Broadway season continues with 'Lion King,' 'Pretty Woman'

The 2022-2023 season will follow fast on the heels of OKC Broadway's current run, which brought touring musicals back to Oklahoma City after an extended intermission due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We’ve been able to bring back the magic of musical theater after an 18-month hiatus, so I’d call that a tremendous success," Gray said in an email to The Oklahoman. "This is all thanks to our loyal subscribers and the unwavering support of Paycom and our other sponsors."

The 2021-2022 "homecoming" season continues with a special three-week return engagement of Disney's perennially popular "The Lion King" May 11-29, followed by the screen-to-stage adaptation "Pretty Woman: The Musical" Aug. 16-21.

Also, Rain A Tribute to The Beatles gets back to the Civic Center April 19 with its "The Best of Abbey Road Live" for a special one-night-only performance.

OKC Broadway also announced March 31 that it will no longer require patrons to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or of a negative PCR test for its upcoming performances.

Ticketholders will be required to wear masks for Disney's "The Lion King," due to the performers' interaction with the audience. Other productions also may require patrons to be masked.

Masks are encouraged but not required for the upcoming performances of "Pretty Woman: The Musical" and Rain — A Tribute to The Beatles.

OKC's new Broadway season blasts off with 'Hairspray'

OKC Broadway's 2022-2023 subscription season will blast off the Tony Award-winning musical comedy "Hairspray" Sept. 6-11. Set in 1960s Baltimore, the show follows teenage dreamer Tracy Turnblad as she tries to dance onto a popular TV series to bouncy tunes like “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” “Welcome to the 60’s” and “Good Morning Baltimore." The new touring production features "RuPaul's Drag Race" standout Andrew Levitt (aka Nina West) as Tracy's mom, Edna Turnblad.

The season next will take audiences to "Hadestown" Oct. 25-30. The winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, along with the 2020 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, this celebrated new show takes audiences on a hell-raising journey as it relates the mythological stories of lovers Orpheus and Eurydice, along with Hades, king of the Underworld, and his wife, Persephone.

"Tootsie," a new musical based on the 1982 movie starring Dustin Hoffman, will play OKC Nov. 15-20. Like the film, the stage show follows a talented but temperamental actor whose difficult reputation makes it hard for him to get gigs, prompting him to adopt a new identity as a woman. The musical's book won a 2019 Tony for writer Robert Horn, and the show features a score by David Yazbek, who earned a 2018 Tony for "The Band's Visit."

OKC Broadway to ring in 2023 with add-on specials

OKC Broadway will bid farewell to 2022 and ring in 2023 with two add-on season specials.

Boasting more lives than a herd of felines, Andrew Lloyd Webber's ever-popular musical fantasy "Cats" leaps back into the Civic Center for a limited run Dec. 30-Jan. 1.

The outrageously irreverent nine-time Tony-winning comedy "The Book of Mormon" also returns for a limited run Jan. 13-15.

The subscription season continues Feb. 14-19 with a new production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" that won Britain's Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival in 2017. With lyrics and music by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winners Tim Rice and Lloyd Webber, the production celebrates the 50th anniversary of the rock opera, which spawned the 1971 Billboard Album of the Year.

'Frozen,' 'Hamilton' to cap upcoming musical theater season in OKC

Originally slated to come to OKC during the 2020-2021 season before the COVID-19 pandemic forced audiences to "Let It Go," Disney's "Frozen" will sweep into the Civic Center March 22-April 2, 2023. The stage version of the Oscar-winning animated hit features the film's familiar songs, plus an expanded score with a dozen new numbers by the movie's award-winning songwriters, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

After playing a three-week run in Oklahoma City in summer 2019, the return of "Hamilton" will close OKC Broadway's upcoming season with performances May 24-June 4, 2023. Miranda's revolutionary song-and-dance biography of "ten-dollar Founding Father" Alexander Hamilton continues to resonate as a pop-culture phenomenon that has won Tony, Grammy and Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.
