‘Hamilton,’ ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ among six Broadway shows coming to Tennessee Theatre

The Tennessee Theatre has announced its 2022-23 season of Broadway shows. Along with “Hamilton,” six Broadway shows with take the Tennessee stage for 56 performances this season.

Here is the full line-up:

"Dear Evan Hansen": Nov. 15-20

Winner of 6 Tony Awards, including best musical in 2017, “Dear Evan Hansen” tells the profound story of a high senior with social anxiety who takes extreme measures to develop meaningful connections.

"Jesus Christ Superstar": Nov. 29-Dec. 4

This 1970s rock-opera depicts the last seven days of the life of Christ as seen through the eyes of Judas.

"Tootsie": Jan. 3-8

A laugh out loud musical, “Tootsie” follows a difficult, out-of-work actor who lands the role of a lifetime after an act of desperation.

"Hamilton": Feb. 7-19

Winner of 11 Tony Awards and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “Hamilton” blends hip-hop, jazz and show tunes in this modern telling of one of America’s founding fathers.

"Cats": April 11-16

One of the longest running shows on Broadway, “Cats” features one of the most beloved theater songs, “Memory,” and takes place in one magical night as a tribe of cats gather to decide which will be reborn.

"Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations": July 18-23, 2023

From the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, this 12-time Tony nominated musical is the story of one of the greatest R&B groups of all time: The Temptations. It features classics like “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “Get Ready,” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.”

New subscription packages for the season go on sale June 27. Benefits include first notification of season lineups, early ticket purchase to individual shows, reduced ticket fees, and the best available prices of the season.

Individual tickets for these shows will be available closer to the start of the theatre season.

In addition to the regular lineup, the Tennessee Theatre also announced that the musical “9 to 5” will be an add-on show this season. The special production will run May 5-7, 2023.

With a score by Dolly Parton, the hit musical inspired by the classic '80s film is about a trio of women who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical boss. Details for "9 to 5" tickets will be announced at a later date.

The Tennessee Theatre also revealed Tuesday that “Wicked” will come to the theatre for the 2023-24 season.
