Paramount+ revealed the official trailer for Halo‘s second season, which has Pablo Schreiber returning as Master Chief John-117 as he leads a team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.

The new season has showrunner David Wiener (Brave New World) taking over for last season’s Steven Kane, who oversaw physical production on the first season in Budapest, and Kyle Killen, who supervised writing and production in the United States.

The new footage shows plenty of space action, though it appears a bit dim and murky (at least, in this trailer):

Wiener, Schreiber and newcast member Joseph Morgan had unveiled the first new footage for season two at CCXP in São Paulo in December.

The second season description: “In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe — that the Covenant is preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction: the Halo.”

The series takes place in the universe that first debuted in 2001 with the launch of Xbox’s first Halo game, which went on to become a blockbuster franchise.

New additions to the cast this season include Joseph Morgan (Vampire Diaries), Cristina Rodlo (No One Gets Out of Here Alive) and Christina Bennington (Midsomer Murders). They join returning castmembers Natascha McElhone (Californication), Jen Taylor (Halo game series), Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo), Shabana Azmi (Fire), Natasha Culzac (The Witcher), Olive Gray (Half Moon Investigations), Yerin Ha (Reef Break), Bentley Kalu (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Kate Kennedy (Catastrophe), Charlie Murphy (Peaky Blinders) and Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful).

The first two episodes premiere on Paramount+ on Feb. 8.
