Modern Romance: Guy Proposes to His Girlfriend By Dressing Up Like Michael Myers From 'Halloween'

It’s a beautiful story as old as time: Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy proposes marriage to girl by dressing up like her favorite murderer.

This week, a creative cinephile named Alec Wells reminded us of that heartwarming old tradition this week by posting a YouTube video of the scary — and ultimately successful — method he used to propose marriage to his girlfriend, Katherine Canipe, a little less than a year ago. The couple, both 30, are both big movie fans, and Canipe, in particular, is a horror-flick fiend. So when it came time to pop the question, he knew just how to do it, as you can see in the video above.

“She hosts a podcast about horror movies called Boys and Ghouls and John Carpenter’s Halloween is her favorite movie of all time,” Wells told The Daily Mail. “It seemed only natural — given that we live so close to the original filming locations — that her proposal come from Michael Myers himself!”

The proposal, which was caught on tape by several of their friends, took inspiration from the first scene of the original 1978 Halloween film, which marked the debut of Michael Myers, the mask-wearing maniac who terrorizes a suburban California town. And as expected, Katherine was both scared and elated by the proposal — so much so that, after saying yes, she allowed Alec to choose the theme of their engagement photo.

As you can see below, he went with another classic film — and Back to the Future was probably easier to share with the grandparents.
