Halloween parades

• Tarrytown: Oct. 29, beginning at 5:30. Expect floats, costumed revelers, and bands along Broadway and then down Main Street to a the reviewing stand where prizes will be awarded. Rain date is Oct. 30. Go to tarrytownhalloweenparade.com

• Nyack: Oct. 29. The annual evens steps off at 5:30 p.m. Costumes, floats and more. Best of awards will be given at the Gazebo on Main Street following the parade. Rain date is Oct. 30. For more info, or to register your float, go to nyackchamber.org/nyack-halloween

• Orangeburg Halloween Parade: Oct. 31, 6:30-8 p.m. The annual parade, sponsored by the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department, takes place at the fire house, 61 Dutch Hill Road.

• New Paltz: Oct. 31, 3-6 p.m. The New Paltz Rotary's event will include stations set up with apples and candy for kids in costume. The parade will start at the Middle School and march down Main Street to Plattekill Avenue and end at the old fire house. For more info, go to newpaltzrotary.org/events/

• NYC: Oct. 31. The city's 49th annual Village Parade is back in full form with the theme Freedom, after a COVID cancellation and some uncertainty surrounding last year's event. It will take place beginning at 7 p.m. Oct. 31. and runs down Sixth Avenue between Spring and 16th Streets. For more info go to halloween-nyc.com/

Town of Haverstraw Halloween festival: Oct. 29, noon-4 p.m. The festival will include a haunted house, hayride, inflatables, live music and food. At Bowline Point Park, with a rain date of Oct. 30. The event is for North Rockland residents only, and children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze, Croton-on-Hudson: Thru Nov. 20. This outdoor event is a display of thousands of carved pumpkins arrayed in various tableaux ranging from the Statue of Liberty to a pumpkin planetarium. New displays this year: An animated “Jack” Smith working in his shop and a hive of glowing bees. Timed entry tickets are sold online only. Online tickets start at $32 for adults and $24 for children 3-17, and are free for children 2 and under. The 2022 dates are: Sept. 28-Oct. 31; Nov. 2-6; Nov. 9-13; and Nov. 18-20. Tickets are also on sale for "Irving's Legend," and "Home of the Legend," Halloween events which take place at Sunnyside, the home of author Washington Irving. Peace, Love & Pumpkins, Bethel: For the second Halloween season, the grounds of Bethel Woods will play host to carved pumpkins and pumpkin art. The "family-friendly walk-thru," includes icons from the Woodstock festival, mermaids, Big Foot, dinosaurs and more. Timed tours take place from 6:30-10 p.m. with the last entry at 9 p.m. Oct. 21, 28 are Friday Night Frights, and those nights are not recommended for kids. Tickets are $18 adults (18+); $8 youth (3-17); kids 2 and under are free. Price increases day of so advance purchase is encouraged. This is a rain or shine event. There are special theme nights, too. Trunk or Treat, Poughkeepsie: Oct. 28, 6-8 p.m. Eastdale Village Town Center. Kids can trick-or-treat from trunk to trunk full of goodies. There will be live music by Heavy Gauge, a cash prize for best decorated car, and a costume contest. All goodies are store-bought and pre-wrapped. Home of 'The Legend': Thru Nov. 13. At this family-friendly happening at Washington Irving's Sunnyside, visitors can tour Washington Irving’s house — decorated for the season — watch an original shadow puppet short film, and enjoy games on the lawn. A special exhibit highlights how the "Legend" has lived in the imagination of popular culture through the centuries since its publication. Friday-Sunday through Nov. 13. Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience, Yorktown: Beginning Oct. 22. This new, (and very popular, many dates may already be sold out) outdoor interactive attraction at FDR State Park in Yorktown, will welcome all ages of witches, wizards and muggles alike to a walking trail where they'll cast spells and experience creatures from both the "Harry Potter" and "Fantastic Beasts" franchises. Begins Oct. 22. Tickets start at $36 start adult and $25 for kids. Price is dependent on the day and time of the session chosen. 5 to 11 p.m. Taconic State Parkway entrance to Franklin D. HalloWine Walk, Montgomery: Oct. 28, 30, 31. City Winery Hudson Valley's HalloWINE Walk takes guests on a haunted walk along the Wallkill River with a wine glass in hand! Guests of all ages will experience frights and delights throughout the 30 minute(ish) event. The walk is $5 at the door (children under 10 free) and will be open from 5-9 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Montgomery Fire Department. Costumes are optional. 23 Factory St., Montgomery. Run for Your Life 10K, Sleepy Hollow: Oct. 29. Experience historic and scary sites along the scenic Hudson River course in Sleepy Hollow. A best costume prize will be given. Advance registration at rivertownrunners.org. Kids race beings at 9 a.m., 10K at 9:30 a.m. at Morse School on Beekman Avenue.

Frights

Scared by The Sound, Yorktown: Scared by the Sound has taken over the entire former Kmart in Yorktown Heights for its totally indoor haunt location for 2022 It’s now occupied by the undead along with creatures from the crypt, asylum, cemetery and more. Also new: entry is by timed tickets only purchased online and in advance, plus extra room for social distancing. Open every Friday and Saturday, and the last four Sundays in October. Kevin McCurdy's Haunted Mansion, Wappingers Falls: There’s a lot to be scared of at this annual event, now it its 41st year, including the Wicked Woods, which features Deadwood Gulch, the Fun House and Lost Souls Cemetery. The 2022 dates are Oct. 1-31; Fridays, Saturdays 7-11 p.m.; Sundays 7-9 p.m.. Thursday Oct. 27, 7-9 p.m., Halloween 6-9 p.m. For tickets, more info go to thehauntedmansion.com. Zombie Seltzer Scramble, Pine Bush: Oct. 27. Held at the Pine Bush UFO & Paranormal Museum, this zombie themed scavenger hunt will have you scouting Pine Bush on foot, looking for clues and answering trivia questions. First one to return to the museum with the challenges completed will win a a hard seltzer casket. Participants must be 21 years old or older to participate, and must provide ID at time of ticket purchase. The museum has a lot of fun Halloween events on its schedule. Hulda: The Other Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Oct. 29-30. Once shunned as a witch, Hulda of Bohemia is now remembered as an 18th-century patriot and healer. This one-woman story telling experience was written by Carla Lynne Hall and Jim Keyes and is performed by Hall with original music performed by Keyes. Performances are held at 1 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. at the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow. Tickets are $25 adults; $20 children. The Old Dutch Church is located at 430 Broadway, Sleepy Hollow. The Haunted Fortress of Stanford: Weekends in October. The spooky surprises in the Haunted Fortress of Stanford are back for 2022. A trail leads you into a maze of haunted structures with characters ranging from a little strange to really really creepy. There are eerie effects and scary skits that change a little each night. Cash only. Adults $15, children 12 and under $10, seniors $10. is Open four weekends in October, Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm and Sundays from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. As in previous years there will be a sensory friendly daytime walkthrough for the benefit of the Tatton Brown Rahman Syndrome (TBRS), Oct. 22 with a rain date of Oct. 23 from 11 am to 4 pm. Headless Horseman, Ulster Park: Dates thru Oct. 30. There's something new at this haunted attraction which dares you to walk into the darkness and see your shadow, or is it the shadow of others that came before you? Hmmm. Expect all the usual scares at the attraction that USA Today included among its 10 Best in 2019. Headless Horseman is not recommended for children under 13 and children 8 years old or younger will not be permitted into the walk-thrus, haunted houses or corn maze, unless it is during the Children's Day is Oct. 22. Pure Terror Scream Park, Monroe: Dates thru Oct. 31. Touted as Guinness World Record's "Longest Horror Attraction in the World," Pure Terror Scream Park announces its new haunted attraction, "Bedlam State Asylum" This now abandoned and eerie mental hospital was known for its experimental treatments on patients. Many visitors have reported hearing unusual noises such as doors randomly slamming shut as well as feeling a shaking sensation coming from the floors below. There's also a food court, gift shop and photo ops on the property. Open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday , rain or shine, through Oct. 31. Nightmare on Werner, Florida (Orange County): Oct. 28, 29. There’s new and updated features this year including a maze that will be scarier than ever! Fridays 7-10 p.m.; Saturdays 7-10 p.m. Admission: (Tickets must be purchased by 9:30 p.m. $25 adult; $20/child (9 and under). Non-Scare Days: Oct. 16 and 23. 3-6 p.m. $10/person (Parents are free with paid child’s admission during non-scare hours only.) Sleepy Hollow Cemetery tours: This historic cemetery is the final resting place for author Washington Irving, who wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," as well as the historic 17th century Old Dutch Church. There are several events planned around Halloween, from cocktails with the dead, to a murder mystery, along with daytime and evening walking tours, some led by lantern light. Events take place thru October and select dates in November. Ghost Tours of the Tarrytown Music Hall: Dates thru October. If you've been to a performance or show at this historic theater, this is a fun event to experience all its glories and its past! Storyteller Jonathan Kruk leads the 45-minute tour of the historic theater, built in 1885, and home to events as wide ranging as President's speeches to women suffrage rallies; roller skating to movie screenings of "Gone With The Wind." It is a vessel through which many people pass. And some don’t leave … The building is an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. Gotham Paranormal Research Society has investigated the Music Hall several times and has consistently detected paranormal activity including intriguing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio files and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings. Lyndhurst After Dark, Tarrytown:  Oct. 29-30. Tour the mansion once home to Gilded Age financier Jay Gould by candlelight, see rarely viewed special collection pieces on display surrounded by festive Autumnal decor.  Performers will relate in-depth stories regarding Victorian mourning practices, customs, and spiritualism, a popular social pastime of the era. All visitors must have a pre-purchased ticket for this performance. A limited number of tickets are available and time slots do sell out. ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show: 47th Anniversary Spectacular’: Oct. 26, 29: This is a national tour with the movie’s star Barry Bostwick. See a screening, come in costume, talk back to the screen! Hulda: The Other Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Thru Oct. 30. The famous graveyard in Sleepy Hollow is also home to the legend of Hulda of Bohemia, the “High German witch doctor” who, according to Irving, is said to have bewitched Sleepy Hollow so that a “drowsy, dreamy influence seems to hang over the land.” The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow has honored Hulda with a gravestone, as well as a live presentation of “Hulda: The Other Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” performed by storyteller Carla Lynne Hall with a live original score performed by Jim Keyes. Hearts of the Hollow, Carmel: Thru Oct. 31. The two-act, 20-song musical inspired by Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," and written by Patricia White, brings new twists, new characters, and new music to Irving’s tale. The show takes place inside the historical Whipple-Feely Chapel in Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park in Carmel. The show will run every weekend through Oct. 31. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Thru Oct. 31. Irving’s ‘Legend’ returns reimagined this fall. Performed for the first time ever outdoors under the stars at Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, master storyteller Jonathan Kruk will cast a spell with dramatic performances of the classic tale. Live music and an appearance from the Headless Horseman himself make this a spooky spectacular experience for all ages. Fridays-Sunday thru Oct. 31.
