Spooky bar crawls, costume contests and nightlife to check out this Halloween weekend

The ghosts and ghouls are coming out, which means it’s time to dress up and hit the town for Knoxville's best Halloween nightlife.

With plenty of time to spare, here are spooky events you can still check out at Knoxville’s bars, restaurants and breweries this this month. Now all you need is a costume.

Oct. 7-31: Brother Werewolf in the Old City

With the full moon out, Brother Wolf has transformed into Brother Werewolf for the spooky season.

The Halloween pop-up bar concept is Brother Wolf's first independent pop-up. The space has been decked out to appear "vintage, gothic romance, like the original 'Frankenstein,'" said bar manager and evil genius behind the concept AJ Tierney.

The bar also has a specialty cocktail menu with five new drinks and two shots available only for October.

If you and a partner are looking to get spooky without going to a party, Brother Werewolf is a terrifying bar to get some creepy cocktails for the night.

Oct. 14-30: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at the Theatre Knoxville

Running throughout the month, this event fits the season while offering something a little different.

Theatre Knoxville, a community theatre at 800 S. Central St., is performing "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" Oct. 14-30. It's directed by Tom Eubanks and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher based on the novella by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Performances are every Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 3 p.m. Admission is $20.

Oct. 27: HalloWingo at The Standard

This is a little different but equally fun and spooky.

HalloWingo is presented by Tennova Healthcare Services and is a benefit night for InterFaith Health Clinic. The night lasts from 6-9 p.m. and features Singo (take bingo and combine it with a song guessing game), dinner, drinks, costume contests and a silent auction.

It’s a little pricier than other events, with tickets starting at $75. But it’s a good time for a good cause.

Oct. 27-29: A Victorian Séance Experience at the Mabry-Hazen House

Dark spirits can be found in Knoxville, and here's your chance to find them.

Located near the Morningside neighborhood, the Mabry-Hazen House is a museum and historic home. But once a year, the house becomes a location for the macabre with a séance experience.

Séances occur every 20 minutes between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. It's $20 for the event or $15 for those under 18. There will also be tarot card readings and vendors present every night.

Oct. 29: Halloween Silent Disco at Hi-Wire Brewing

At this point, silent discos have become a mainstay in Knoxville, which is why it's perfect for the spooky season!

From 8 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 29, the Silent Disco Knox is at Hi-Wire Brewing. It will have three DJs each playing different music. You’ll receive a pair of headphones and have the option to switch between each DJ. All that’s left is singing and dancing with a group of people who may or may not be listening to the same song.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Costumes are encouraged and the drinks will be flowing!

Oct. 29: Halloween Costume Party at The Lighthouse

For those looking to dress up, the Knoxville Entertainment Group is hosting its first annual Halloween party!

The costume party will take place at The Lighthouse at 6800 Baum Drive. The party, from 8 p.m. to midnight Oct. 29, will have food, vendors, games and a costume contest with prizes.

Tickets for the party start at $35.

Oct. 29: SINsational Halloween Gala at Hexagon Brewing Co.

Hexagon Brewing Co. is hosting another Halloween event from drag entertainment Mystic Grace Productions on Oct. 29.

The SINsational Gala will start at 8 p.m. and go until midnight. It’s open to everyone and promises a costume contest, games, craft beer and drag. It’s 21 and up to enter, and it looks to be one spooky party!

Oct. 29: The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Tennessee Theatre

If you missed the shadowcast at the Concourse, there's still one more opportunity to experience it this year.

The Tennessee Theatre is doing its annual showing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on Oct. 29. There will be costumes, thematic drinks and door prizes. The website does mention certain props and items are and aren't allowed, so be mindful.

Doors open at 10 p.m. and the show begins at 11 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults. Embark on the strange journey and have a good time!

Oct. 29: Halloween Bar Crawl at Mirage Knoxville

For those looking for drinking in costumes, look no further than Crawl with Us’ Halloween Bar Crawl.

Check-in for the crawl is from 4-6 p.m. at Mirage Knoxville. With several bars participating, the crawl lasts until 10 p.m. with an after party until midnight at Scruffy City Hall.

Bars include Ale’ Rae’s Gastropub, Bernadette’s Crystal Gardens, Mirage, Preservation Pub, Scruffy City Hall, Skybox Sports Bar and Grill, Alice in Appalachia and Tommy Trent’s Sports Saloon. Participants will hop from bar to bar at their own pace, with no set schedule.

Tickets cost $15 for a single ticket or $10 in a group of four or more. This covers two drinks or shots, a badge and lanyard, exclusive drink and food specials, a waived cover, a map and an entry into the $1,000 costume contest. Happy crawling!

Oct. 29: Once Upon a Time in Knoxville at Five Thirty Lounge

Bringing the cinema to the bar, Five Thirty Lounge is hosting a specific costume party in the heart of downtown.

On Oct. 29, Five Thirty Lounge in the Hyatt Place Knoxville will have a Quentin Tarantino costume party. Called Once Upon a Time in Knoxville, the party tasks guests with dressing as their favorite character from a Tarantino movie.

Doors open at 5 p.m. but the party is 21 and up after 8 p.m. Guests need to reserve tickets in advance. The winner will be announced on Oct. 30 and they will win a free night at the Hyatt and a $50 gift card to Five Thirty Lounge.

Oct. 29: Monster Madness Drag Show at Crafty Bastard Brewery West

If you're looking for something a little more out west for Halloween, look no further than Crafty Bastard.

The brewery location at 9937 Kingston Pike is hosting the Monster Madness Drag Show. The 18-and-up show will feature performances by Morphine Drip, Harri Scari, Salem Lestrange, Fatty Acid and Eva Ladiva. There's also a costume contest.

The show starts at 9 p.m. and ends at 11:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 per person.

Oct. 30: Groovy Halloween at Lost & Found Records

Although an all-day event, Groovy Halloween offers a different kind of celebration.

Organized by Knox Art Collective and hosted at Lost & Found Records, Groovy Halloween is a one-day music festival. This year, it features the likes of EJ the Maker and Kandi Lake.

Groovy Halloween starts at 1 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. It costs $20 to attend.

Oct. 31: Spooky Little Jazz Night at the Bistro by the Bijou

For something a little more classy, enjoy drinks and jazz on Halloween night, if you dare.

The Braden Jones Trio is performing on Oct. 31 at the Bistro by the Bijou. With a drink like the Corpse Reviver in your hand, it's sure to be spooky and enjoyable time.
