No one’s there to celebrate you during life’s major milestones quite like a close friend. You know which ones we’re talking about — the friends that are more than just colleagues but chosen family; like sisters. That very bond was on display when Halle Berry took to social media and gave longtime pal Angela Bassett the biggest, most heartfelt shout-out, and the message she had for the actress perfectly epitomizes friendship goals.

Berry’s most recent Instagram post features a collection of photos of Berry and Bassett and video of excerpts from Bassett’s extraordinary speech at the 2024 Governors Awards, where the actress received an Honorary Oscar. Bassett was previously nominated for two Academy Awards. “My dear Angela…it is no doubt how deserving you are of this long overdue moment,” the caption to Berry’s post, which you can see HERE, began.

“Your commitment to storytelling continues to inspire us ALL. A truly talented and loving soul, mother, leader and woman I am proud to call my sister! Keep shining,” Berry wrote. Berry’s post perfectly articulated how proud she is of Bassett. The dazzling talent earned her first Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It in 1994. Nearly 30 years later, Bassett received her second Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

With a such a storied career, one that’s entering a new chapter, it’s wonderful to see Bassett receive the industry recognition she’s always deserved. We have no doubt Berry’s sentiments were shared by many, as she celebrated her longtime friend, colleague, and sister.
