Halle Berry Mourns Late “X-Men” Costar Adan Canto After His Death at 42: 'Forever, Forever in My Heart'

Halle Berry is honoring Adan Canto, who died on Monday at the age of 42.

The actress, 57, took to her social media accounts Tuesday afternoon with a tribute for her late X-Men costar.

“I don’t have the words just yet…. but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart 🕊️ 🤍," Berry wrote alongside a close-up photo of Canto.

She also added the post to her Instagram story with a gray heart emoji hovering over his picture.

Berry and Canto worked together most recently in the 2020 MMA drama Bruised, which was Berry’s directorial debut. Canto played the role of Desi, Berry's character's manager and boyfriend.

They also both appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014 where she played the mutant Storm and he played Sunspot.

Canto's peers took to social media to express their grief and remember the actor.

"’m completely lost for words. He was the strongest person I know in every sense of the word and I am so angry that this happened," posted his Designated Survivor costar Italia Ricci. "F--k cancer."

"Beautiful friend…. You are the level of person that Hollywood didn’t even deserve," added Maggie Q, who also starred in the ABC political. "Anyone who knew you was a lucky one."

Kal Penn echoed his costars, writing, "Absolutely heartbreaking to lose Adan Canto. He was so genuine and warm, immensely talented; such a good person who was simultaneously calm and motivating. And funny. He was very, very funny. I’m so lucky to have known him. My heart goes out to Steph, the kids, and the whole family."

Oliver Hudson, who starred with Canto on The Cleaning Lady paid tribute as well. "I only knew Adan for 2 years but it was enough to know what an amazing friend, father and man he was. Wow did he loved his family. We would spend so much time talking about our kids and what kind of people they might become," Hudson shared. "I’m truly devastated. Love you my man."

Canto, who began his career as a musician in Mexico before becoming a Hollywood actor, died after a battle with appendiceal cancer, which he kept out of the public eye, according to Deadline

"Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever," Canto's reps at UTA, Entertainment360 and Viewpoint said, per the outlet. "He will be greatly missed by so many."

Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment also shared a statement saying they were "heartbroken" to learn of the actor’s death.

"A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago," the statement read.

"Most recently, he lit up the screen in The Cleaning Lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability," the statement continued. "This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly."

Canto starred as Paul on The Following, Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on Narcos and Aaron Shore on Designated Survivor.

He also played Arman Morales on Fox's crime drama The Cleaning Lady. The series is set to return for season 3 on March 5, but Canto did not take part in filming, according to Deadline.

Behind the camera, Canto also directed and produced two short films, Before Tomorrow in 2014 and The Shot in 2020.

Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Roman Alder, 3½, and Eve Josephine, 1½.
