Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner talk business, surprise students in Florida college classroom

Kendall Jenner is trading red carpets and runways for college bars and lecture halls. This week, she partied with the Florida Gators and made appearances at bars in Gainesville, then headed south to Florida International University in Miami.

She poured shots in Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Athens, Georgia, but in Miami, she and her bestie Hailey Bieber, wife of Justin Bieber, surprised students in class.

And Instagram users are dishing out some backlash, saying the two are no more than faces of their companies and shouldn't be giving business advice to students who don't have the same privileged backgrounds.

Jenner is traveling the Southeast’s biggest college campuses to promote her tequila brand, 818, and it isn’t the first time she’s done this.

FIU Professor and Hospitality Entrepreneur David Grutman, who's had other celebrities like Bad Bunny, Jason Mamoa, Alix Earle and Rick Ross appear in his classes, invited Jenner and Bieber to discuss their businesses.

Jenner’s business is a tequila brand called 818 that launched in 2021. Bieber’s is a beauty brand called Rhode that launched in 2022.

Why was Kendall Jenner in Gainesville, Florida?

On Wednesday, Feb. 7, Jenner appeared at The Swamp Restaurant, The Social at Midtown and Gator Beverage in Gainesville to pour shots of 818 tequila and sign autographs.

The Gainesville Sun reported that fans were lined up in front of The Swamp Restaurant as early as 1 p.m. to try to catch a glimpse of the reality star-turned supermodel.

What colleges did Kendall Jenner go to?

Before swinging by The Swamp to pour out 818 shots, Jenner was in Athens, Georgia and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, visiting both the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The day after her Gainesville appearance, she and Bieber came to FIU to speak in Grutman’s class, although many suspected Florida State University − and known rival to University of Florida − would be her next stop. Hailey Bieber’s appearance seemed to be a surprise.

Jenner did an 818 college tour of the Midwest in October, visiting Indiana University, Ohio State University, the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Why did reality TV star Kendall Jenner name her tequila 818?

Jenner launched her tequila brand in 2021 and named it “818” because it’s the area code for her hometown in Los Angeles County’s San Fernando Valley.

Does Hailey Bieber own Rhode makeup and skin care?

Yes. Bieber is the founder and owner of her makeup and skincare brand Rhode, but she is not the CEO.

FIU’s official Instagram account posted a reel about Bieber and Jenner’s appearance in the hospitality seminar, and the comments section mentions how Bieber and Jenner have had more privilege than “normal” business owners (and that Bieber is not the CEO of her own company).

“Hailey Bieber literally has no education, no job nor business. Her job is being a Nepo baby and being married to Justin (Bieber),” one user commented. “I can't go to a school that counts rich bums as a successful person for real WORKING class people to learn from.”

“I guess they should bring their business managers …” another user commented. “Don’t think these two are more than (faces) for a business run by other people …”

Is reality TV star Kendall Jenner visiting any other Florida colleges?

While Jenner hasn't made any official announcements on where she's headed next, 818's official Instagram might have given a hint. And it looks like she could be staying in the Sunshine State to visit a third university.

After a fan commented that they should head to "biggest party school in the USA" which they clarified was Florida State University in Tallahassee, the account responded back with "Stay tuned."

Many thought Jenner might appear at FSU the day after her UF appearance, but she popped up at FIU instead.
