A New Single

Dickinson star and Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld is back with new music, a new ballad called "Wrong Direction." While Steinfeld hasn't come out and said if the song is based on a real life experience, fans think that it might be about her ex, former One Direction member Niall Horan. Lyrics also hint that if it was Horan, he may have cheated on Steinfeld.

"“I don’t hate you/No, I couldn’t if I wanted to/I just hate all the hurt that you put me through/And that I blame myself for letting you/Did you know I already knew?”

"“Lookin’ back, I probably should have known/But I just wanted to believe that you were out sleepin’ alone"

Is It About Niall Horan?

The lyrics also imply that it could have been a boy band sized ego that contributed to the break up.

"On my tiptoes/But I still couldn’t reach your ego/Guess I was crazy to give you my body, my mind/Don’t know what I was thinkin’ till now/Everyone thinks that you’re somebody else/You even convinced yourself"

Steinfeld and Horan dated off and on for most of 2018 and reportedly broke up in the fall of that year. Again, this song isn't necessarily about breaking up with Horan, but fans are already starting to read into the lyrics (and that title, c'mon).

Fans Are Split

Fans are definitely reading into the song, and some are singing Steinfeld's praises for speaking her truth and dragging Horan for the implied cheating.

"Hold on, Niall Horan cheated on Hailee Steinfeld?????? Her new song...."

"niall horan f*cking cheated on hailee my life is a lie"

Others seemed to be #TeamNiall through this alleged order, because being a Directioner is for life.

"Oh you're coming after Niall?"

"You know he’s got an army behind him that will attack anyone who hurts him right? Cool."

Honestly, yikes.

She's Excited About New Music

Steinfeld hinted about her new album while she was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight at MTV's Video Music Awards back in August.

"I have been working on the music nonstop, and I am so excited. I finished season one of Dickinson and I went straight home to L.A. and I’ve been writing ever since. I kind of have this new perspective on writing after playing this character. Just this sort of fearlessness that I never really approached my writing with. So, I’m very excited about this new music. It’s very honest. It’s very fun and it’s coming soon!"
