Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen Are in 'a Serious Relationship': 'They're Both Very Family-Oriented' (Exclusive)

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen's bond continues to develop.

A source close to the couple tells PEOPLE that the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star and the Buffalo Bills quarterback have a "serious relationship," almost eight months after the couple were first seen spending time together last May.

"They always planned to spend more time together after his season ended. Things have been going really well," the source says. "They’re both very family-oriented and driven, and they want to protect their relationship and keep it private. They’ve been on the same page with all of that."

Steinfeld and Allen, both 27, have kept their romance mostly private over the last several months, though they have been spotted out for dates together multiple times. The couple made their first public appearance together in October, when they attended the NHL's Buffalo Sabres' season-opener against the New York Rangers. Most recently, Steinfeld and Allen were photographed together in Laguna Niguel, California in January, one week after the Kansas City Chiefs knocked Allen and the Bills out of the NFL playoffs.

"Hailee’s in a great place and would love to settle down if it’s with the right guy," the source tells PEOPLE of Steinfeld.

After Steinfeld and Allen were first spotted out together back in May, a source told PEOPLE that the pair had been "hanging out for a few weeks" and were a "cute couple."

"It's new, but they are having fun," the source added at that time. In June, a source additionally told PEOPLE that Steinfeld and Allen were "still dating and getting to know each other." Months later in October, Steinfeld was seen spending time with Allen's mother Lavonne in East Aurora, New York when the store Leveled Up Buffalo shared a photo on Instagram showing the Edge of Seventeen star and Lavonne posing together with its owner, Lindsey Vega.

Allen, who has been the Bills' starting quarterback since 2019, briefly addressed his relationship with Steinfeld during an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast back in August.

"The fact that anybody cares about that still blows my mind," Allen said, when he was asked about the attention placed on the couple's relationship. "I just felt this gross feeling - insecurity, no privacy," he added of photographs taken of him and Steinfeld in public.
