H.E.R. is set to make her Broadway producing debut with "Here Lies Love" musical
At 26, R&B singer H.E.R. has accomplished many milestones, including winning several Grammys and an Oscar. Now, she is adding Broadway producer to her impressive career resumé.
On Sunday (July 16), the “Every Kind of Way” singer announced she’s officially making her behind-the-scenes debut for “Here Lies Love” this week. The opportunity is one of many ventures that H.E.R. is a part of this year. “I am so happy to make my Broadway producing debut!” she captioned her Instagram post. “‘Here Lies Love’ opens on July 20, and [I] could not be prouder to bring this important story to the stage! See you on the dance floor! Mabuhay!”
The announcement comes three months after H.E.R. released a statement revealing she was joining the musical’s production team. “Filipinos are a global people. We come in all colors and build bridges across cultures. I am beyond excited to produce my first Broadway musical and forge a unique and meaningful partnership with ‘Here Lies Love,'” she said.
While the upcoming play will be H.E.R.’s inaugural time working backstage, it won’t be her first on a musical set. Last year, the California native starred as Disney’s princess Belle in the live 30th-anniversary celebration of Beauty and the Beast. On IG, she opened up about the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“I can’t even begin to describe how grateful and how proud I am of what we’ve done. This is the kind of happiness you hope and pray for in this journey. Thank you so much to every single person on set,” H.E.R. expressed. “Thank you to my amazing castmates! Dawn, Eve, Allen, Jon, Hamish, Katie, Raj, Jamal, Lauren, Erica, Gabby, Will, all the dancers, Alyssa, Scott, ABC, done and dusted, Kim and Sam, Marina, special shout out to Jessie who hand-painted the Baybayin on my costume. There’s so many others I know I’m forgetting, but thank you to EVERYONE! You’ve pushed me, believed in me, and have shown me so much love. I am forever, forever changed by you all. It truly was a CELEBRATION!”
