Gypsy Rose Blanchard is enjoying quality family time after her release from prison on Dec. 28 — including with her half-sister, Mia Blanchard.

Gypsy was born to Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard and Rod Blanchard in 1991, though her parents split shortly after her birth. Rod remarried years later to Kristy Blanchard, with whom he welcomed two children, including Mia.

In 2015, Gypsy and her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn conspired and killed Dee Dee after Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, a form of abuse where a parent or guardian may seek attention by making their child ill or exaggerating their illness. A week later, the two were arrested, with Gypsy ultimately pleading guilty and being sentenced to 10 years in prison. After serving eight years of her term, Gypsy was released on Dec. 28, 2023.

Though Mia is a decade younger than Gypsy, the two remained close during her time in prison and had a sweet reunion once she was let out.

The day after her release, Gypsy posted a photo alongside her sister, writing “Sister Love 💕” in the caption. Mia posted the same photo alongside a carousel of other shots from Gypsy’s homecoming party, including some with her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, and Rod and Kristy.

“the sweetest hello, welcome home sister🤍,” Mia captioned the photos.

From how she supported Gypsy during her prison sentence to her own life as a college student, here’s everything to know about Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s sister Mia Blanchard.

She was born in 2001

Mia is the youngest of Rod’s children, born on June 26, 2001. She was raised in Louisiana, where Gypsy lived before her mom moved her to Missouri.

In 2023, Mia celebrated her 22nd birthday in Lafayette, Louisiana. “Absolutely beautiful. Dad and I did good! We love you,” Kristy commented on Mia’s birthday post.

She is a student at the University of Louisiana

After graduating from high school in 2019, Mia became a student at the University of Louisiana where she studies nursing, earning her white coat in February 2022.

Mia is also an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority on campus and often posts special moments with her sisters, from bid day to getting her little. She also is a football fan and regularly attends the school's games in support of the Ragin’ Cajuns.

She has a brother

Mia also has an older brother, Dylan, but he has remained the most private of the three siblings. In December 2020, Mia posted a picture with her parents and Dylan as they were together for the holidays.

Earlier that year, Mia gave a small glimpse on her Instagram Story into her relationship with Dylan as the two hugged while enjoying a boat day together.

She advocated for Gypsy’s release alongside her family

Gypsy’s family was hoping she would be released earlier than her 10-year sentence. In The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a Lifetime documentary on Gypsy’s life and her time in prison premiering on Jan. 5, Mia said that she felt her sister’s sentence was too long.

“I always thought that 10 years was too long,” she said. “She deserved to be in jail but she also deserved to get help.”

Mia added that while she had a loving childhood, she felt sorry for her half-sister, who grew up separately from her and was isolated from her family and peers.

“I feel sorry Gypsy didn’t get the life that I got to live,” she said in the documentary. “I got to grow up with a loving father and a loving mother, I got to grow up going to school with my friends, hanging out with my friends, learning to do all these things and she never had that. That was taken away from her by her mother.”

She is “proud” of her sister

Though Mia admitted Gypsy deserved jail time for her crime, she said she is proud of the growth she’s seen in her since.

“I feel like Gypsy finally is finding herself, finding that independence,” the college student explained in The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. “She’s made a lot of mistakes but she’s learning.”

Mia elaborated that while Gypsy still has work to do overcoming the trauma of her past, she saw how much effort she was putting into growing.

“Gypsy is always going to struggle with certain things, but she is growing into a beautiful woman that can own up to her stuff when she needs to,” Mia said. “I am very proud of her.”

She was initially skeptical of Gypsy's relationship with her husband

Before she met Anderson, Mia admitted she wasn't sure how she would feel about him, sharing in The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard that she was a "tough one to please."

"She don't know what it's like to live in the real world yet," Mia said of Gypsy. "She doesn't know what it's like to live with a man and I'm just worried it'll end in divorce. I don't want to make her feel like I don't support her or that she's still being controlled, but I never met him."

She continued, "You're going to worry about if this person has the right intentions if they can really give her what she needs."

When Mia suggested that she wanted to meet him, Gypsy was happy to introduce them since she was hoping she could turn to her for relationship advice.

"Sometimes I feel like she's the older sister even though I'm the older sister," Gypsy said. "She's had far more life experience than me."

Mia said she was looking for someone who would be "worth it" for her sister and proceeded to grill Anderson, telling him that she didn't think Gypsy's life would ever be "normal" and he would have to be okay with it.

Though she said her conversation with Anderson put her "at ease," she was still skeptical at the idea of Gypsy getting married.

"I’m not going to keep from doing anything, I want her to live," she said in the documentary. "But she has a whole life to experience, a whole life to live.”
