Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Freedom Leads To Calls For Release Of Her Ex-Boyfriend

Following Gypsy Rose Blanchard's release from prison, questions arise about the fate of her boyfriend, who helped her kill her mother for submitting her to years of physical and mental abuse.

Gypsy, who admitted that she was the brain behind the murder plan, got ten years in prison following her trial in 2016. In contrast, her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, was given a harsher punishment: life in prison without parole.

Nicholas Godejohn Continues To Serve Time After Gypsy Rose Blanchard's Release

After almost eight years in prison, Gypsy has finally been set free, but her ex-boyfriend will continue to serve time as he was sentenced to life in prison for his crime. This has now caused many on social media to call for his release on parole.

Nicolas Godejohn had helped Gypsy murder her mom after meeting her on a dating site for Christian singles. According to Buzzfeed News, the former couple spoke to each other online for two years before eventually meeting up in person for a movie date.

The next time the pair met in person was when Godejohn traveled from Wisconsin to Missouri to carry out Gypsy's plan to kill her mother, Clauddine Dee Dee Blanchard.

During Gypsy and Godejohn's court trials, their lengthy text exchanges revealed how they had discussed plans to get married and start a family and even had names for their future kids.

Nicholas Godejohn Stabbed Gypsy Rose Blanchard's Mother To Death

Godejohn and Gypsy carried out their murder. plan on June 9, 2015. In the 2017 documentary film, "Mommy Dead and Dearest," Gypsy detailed how she and her mother gave each other manicures on the night of the crime before putting her mother to sleep and promising her that she would be a "good girl."

While Dee Dee was sound asleep, Godejohn, who had traveled from Wisconsin to Missouri, entered their home. He then proceeded to stab Dee Dee to death, with Gypsy hiding in the bathroom.

According to People magazine, Gypsy claimed she initially changed her mind about killing her mother but eventually decided to after the both of them got into a heated argument. She emphasized in court that she was the one who talked Godejohn into committing the act, saying, "I did, I talked him into it."

The former couple allegedly stole $4,000 from Dee Dee's room after murdering her and checked into a hotel in Springfield before eventually heading over to Godejohn's home in Wisconsin.

Godejohn, who did not have a history of violence before the incident, noted that he regretted killing Dee Dee, and Gypsy had to console him as he couldn't stop crying over what he had done.

"I felt horrible about it. When me and her were in the hotel room … she [Gypsy] kept on telling me, 'Stop crying, stop crying. There's no reason, reason to cry. It was my idea, it wasn't yours. I … did what I did because I loved her. I really wanted a life with her, I really did," Godejohn told ABC.

The pair were eventually caught after police tracked the IP address of Facebook posts made by Gypsy to Big Bend, Wisconsin. According to The Springfield News-Leader, police searched Godejohn's family home and took him and Gypsy into custody on murder and felony armed criminal action charges.

Gypsy was given a ten-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in July 2016 for her involvement in the death of her mother, Dee Dee.

Godejohn, on the other hand, was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He was also convicted of armed criminal action, which carries 25 years in prison.

Social Media Users Call For Nicholas Godejohn's Release

Shortly after Gypsy was free from prison, netizens began demanding Godejohn's release on parole. Many claim that he was manipulated by Gypsy, whom he stated that he loved and wanted to set free from her abusive mother.

A person wrote, "I wish Gypsy Rose Blanchard the best, I hope she is allowed to heal & is left alone. She's been through enough. (I also think Nicholas Godejohn's conviction should be revisited. I don't think he deserves life in prison.)"

Another person said, "If Gypsy Rose Blanchard deserves to leave prison and join society then so does Nicholas Godejohn. That's only fair."

A third X user tweeted, "Nicholas Godejohn was manipulated by Gypsy to kill her mom. He told Gypsy that he would always protect her and she replied 'even from my mom?' & said that all the plans for her mom to accept him fell apart and she 'got desperate.' She's an abuse victim. She's also a manipulator."

"With #GypsyRoseBlanchard being released, do we feel that Nicholas Godejohn Deserves another trial or a chance at freedom considering the circumstances of what happened?" a person asked on X, with many replying that he deserves to be released on parole.

Amid increased calls for Godejohn's freedom, it is yet to be seen if anything will be done to that effect. Gypsy, on the other hand, has moved on and is now married to Ryan Scott Anderson, who picked her up from prison upon her release on December 28.
