Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't look back at her role in romantic comedy Shallow Hal fondly, if her latest comments describing the film as a “disaster” are anything to go by.

The 2001 movie saw Paltrow don a fat suit to play Rosemary, a 300 pound woman who appeared as thin to Jack Black's character Hal as a result of him being hypnotised into seeing only "inner beauty" in others’ physical appearances.

The 47-year-old made the admission as she appeared in a Netflix video for Goop Lab alongside her assistant and friend Kevin Keating who answered questions about Paltrow, including which was her least favourite performance.

Keating guessed Shallow Hal, prompting Paltrow to confirm: "Exactly."

He continued: "I’m not sure who told you to do that one, but it wasn’t me. I wasn’t there working for you. Not around for that."

"That was before your time," the mother-of-two laughed. "See what happened? Disaster."

Paltrow revealed the favourite of her performances was singing Forget You with Cee Lo Green at the 2011 Grammys.

Shallow Hal has been criticised in the years since since its release for using body shaming to invoke comedy.

When the Farrelly Brothers comedy originally hit screens, Paltrow gave an interview explaining how she found the way she had been treated while in costume as Rosemary "disturbing".

She shared in a 2001 edition of W Magazine: "The first day I tried [the fat suit] on, I was in the Tribeca Grand [a hotel in New York City] and I walked through the lobby. It was so sad; it was so disturbing. No one would make eye contact with me because I was obese.

"I was wearing this black shirt with big snowmen on it. For some reason, the fat clothes they make …The clothes they make for women that are overweight are horrible. I felt humiliated because people were really dismissive."
