Gwyneth Paltrow is attributing her focus on health to her late father Bruce Paltrow.

On Thursday, the Goop founder, 51, took part in an Instagram Story Q&A where she answered questions from fans, including one about how she got into wellness. She answered by saying she had been inspired to do so as a result of her father's health challenges.

“It was actually because my father was diagnosed with cancer when I was about 25 years old and that started to catalyze my foray into understanding food, environmental toxins, food as medicine [and] alternative stuff like acupuncture,” the Oscar winner said in the video, which was filmed at Goop headquarters in Santa Monica, California.

“So it started a long time ago ... I don’t know, in the mid-'90s, because of my dad,” Gwyneth added.

Gwyneth shared last year that her wellness routine included eating lots of “cooked vegetables, all kinds of protein, healthy carbs” to lower inflammation in her body.

“It's been working really well," she added. "This is based on my medical results and extensive testing that I've done over time."

She said she also tries to stay active with "one hour of movement" each day, explaining, "I'll either take a walk or I'll do Pilates or I'll do my Tracy Anderson. I dry brush and I get in the sauna."

This isn’t the first time the actress has opened up about Bruce, who died in October 2002 from throat cancer at age 58. During another Instagram Story Q&A with her followers in August 2023, Gwyneth opened up about the things she missed about her dad, including his sense of humor.

“I miss my dad so much and I miss his humor,” she said at the time. “I was just on a walk with a friend this morning, and even she was talking about the things that my dad used to say. His phrases. He was kind of a philosopher, in his own way. And just had the most brilliant one-liners.”

However, Bruce hasn’t been the only one in Gwyneth's family to deal with cancer. In 2022, the Avengers star’s mother Blythe Danner revealed that she was in remission from oral cancer, the same disease that had killed her husband.

"Everyone is touched by cancer in some way, but it's unusual for a couple to have the same cancer," said Danner, 81.

"I remember I looked up at heaven and said to Bruce, 'Are you lonely up there?' " she recalled after getting the diagnosis in March 2018. "It's a sneaky disease. But I'm fine and dandy now. And I'm lucky to be alive."

Gwyneth praised Danner’s strength while experiencing the disease in an interview with PEOPLE in November 2022. "My mother is genuinely one of the strongest people I know," she said, noting Danner's journey with three surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. "I hope if I ever go through anything like that, I can be like her."

"She went through it with so much grace," Gwyneth added of her mother. "I was amazed at how strong she was able to be."
