Gwyneth Paltrow’s much-anticipated Netflix show is out at last — and it already brings a host of revelations along the lines you might expect from the famous Goop (self-described) provocateur. The Goop Lab, a six-part series premiered on Friday with the news that Paltrow took MDMA with her husband Brad Falchuk and the experience was, well, “deep” she said.

The actress and C.E.O. of her wellness company explains that she once took MDMA in Mexico with Falchuk, who was then her boyfriend. (The pair wed in 2018 after dating for about four years.)

“It was a very, very emotional experience,” she said on the show. And she added an intimate note about why the experience might have been so moving for her: “Being the person that people perceive me to be is inherently traumatic.”

The Goop Lab‘s first episode explores various drugs and shows Goop staffers take mushrooms in Jamaica as part of a healing journey which is what initially triggered Paltrow to open up about her personal history.

Each of the show’s six episodes goes through a practice that the Goop brand believes in and espouses — think energy healing, psychics, orgasms, and anti-aging approaches. The show welcomes experts on these various topics — think doctors, researchers, alternative health practitioners — to explore them deeper and chat through their merits. Paltrow hosts alongside co-host Elize Loehnen, Goop’s C.O.O.

In the trailer, Lohnen explains, “What we try to do at Goop is explore ideas that may seem out there or too scary.” Paltrow adds: “Are you guys ready to go out in the field and make a ruckus?”

And that they did!
