Gwyneth Paltrow has never been one to stick to tradition. From her sometimes controversial wellness brand Goop to her unconventional approach to relationships, she always finds her own path. Remember how she and ex-husband Chris Martin famously “consciously uncoupled”? In a similar vein, she and her current husband, Brad Falchuk, chose to live separately for a year after their wedding — a move that allowed them to balance their busy lives and co-parenting their children from previous marriages. But now, there are reports suggesting that Falchuk’s latest risky business venture might be causing some friction.

Paltrow, who shares two children, Apple and Moses, with Chris Martin, has always been open about the challenges of blending families. Falchuk, too, brings his children, Isabella and Brody, from his marriage to Suzanne Bukinik into the mix. The couple met on the set of Glee in 2014, began dating shortly after, and tied the knot in 2018. Their relationship has seen its share of adventurous moments, including the time Paltrow revealed they took MDMA while dating, describing it as a “deep” experience that brought them closer, and the time that she opened up about how the two hired an intimacy coach during quarantine in 2020.

However, recent developments suggest that the road has gotten a bit rockier. According to an insider, “Gwyneth’s increased focus on Goop in the years since the pandemic has left Brad somewhat adrift as he tries to reinvent his own career outside of the shadow of his longtime collaborator Ryan Murphy.” Falchuk’s solo endeavor, his series The Brothers Sun, a series about a Taipei gangster who travels to Los Angeles to protect his family from danger, unfortunately didn’t find its audience on Netflix and was quickly canceled, dealing a blow to his confidence.

Ryan Murphy, Falchuk’s frequent collaborator and the creative force behind TV hits like American Horror Story and Glee, is currently enjoying success working with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on the latest season of the horror anthology series. This only seems to add more pressure on Falchuk, whose first independent effort stumbled out of the gate.

“Gwyneth, despite her own huge Rolodex of Hollywood contacts, isn’t really equipped to help him out of the doldrums,” the insider continued to InTouch Weekly. “She likes to give input on Brad’s decisions and has helped him level up in the past, but the bottom line is that Brad took a risk and it didn’t pan out. Plus, Gwyneth is laser-focused on making Goop a billion-dollar enterprise. She’s leaving the career counseling to Brad’s team and staying focused on her business.”

According to the insider, the strain on their marriage is palpable. “It’s been a difficult six months for both of them and there isn’t a clear path out of this tailspin for Brad,” the source explained. “He really has only one weapon in his arsenal, and that’s locking himself in a room and writing a new TV show. That might help reverse his fortunes, but it’s not exactly great for their marriage!”

As Paltrow and Falchuk navigate these challenges, a “conscious recoupling” might be on the horizon — or one of Paltrow’s many other less-than-traditional relationship strategies. Regardless, Paltrow’s focus on her brands like Goop shows she’s determined to achieve her own success and not just support her husband’s projects.
