Gwyneth Paltrow Blasts President Obama on Food Safety Issues: ‘I’ve Been Disappointed’

They say true friends are always honest with each other — which seems to be the case with President Barack Obama and longtime Democratic friend and fundraiser Gwyneth Paltrow.

While promoting her new cookbook “It’s All Easy,” Paltrow said she was upset by Obama’s handling of food safety issues, particularly the failure of the government to require the labeling of genetically altered foods. (Last July, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would block states that attempted to require such labeling.)

“I’ve been disappointed in Obama’s stance on G.M.O.s and the public’s right to know what’s in its food,” Paltrow told the New York Times. “88 percent of Americans want labeling.”

The fight to identify genetically modified food is perfectly in step with Paltrow’s brand Goop, which extols clean eating and living — one that she’s increasingly made her day job with side gigs in Hollywood projects like the “Iron Man” franchise the Johnny Depp comedy “Mortdecai” and the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War.”

It might seem daunting to criticize the president — especially in Hollywood’s liberal enclaves — but here you can read an entire essay from Goop on learning to tell the truth.

Paltrow hosted Obama as recently as October 2014 at her home in Brentwood, during a wave of public appearances he made in support of Democratic congressional candidates.

“You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly,” Paltrow told Obama before a crowd that included Julia Roberts and Bradley Whitford, to which Obama responded by joking he’d like to bring the star along for future events.

With such mutual admiration, we have hope for their friendship going forward.

In addition to the cookbook, Goop just released an eponymous organic skincare line.
