Gwen Stefani's Coachella Nails Were a Sweet Tribute to No Doubt

Calling all '90s babies.

Gwen Stefani was the It girl of my childhood. Like many 00s babies, I have vivid memories of singing “Don’t Speak” with my mom on the way to school, and always loved the singer’s cool, punk-glam style. So, when I heard No Doubt would be making a reunion at Coachella, I was stoked, not only for the music but for a chance to see Stefani’s iconic style be brought back to life on stage. In GXVE Beauty and '90s plaid, Stefani made a triumphant return to the stage (joined by Olivia Rodrigo, no less) with a look that’ll go down in festival history.

On April 13, No Doubt headlined the Coachella Music Festival, and Stefani dressed for the part. It was only natural that the queen of '90s angst wore a plaid two-piece set that had all the elements of a great '90s look: Lots of cut-outs, mismatched prints, buckles, and fishnets. Halfway through the show, she changed into a white corset top with matching shorts revealing her knee-high plaid combat boots. Overall, Stefani’s look felt like a heartfelt sartorial tribute to her long career, and her beauty look was no exception.

The day after the performance, Stefani’s nail artist Eri Ishizu shared a close-up of the look on her Instagram, revealing Stefani’s long manicure that was a sweet homage to her band. Her square nails had a French manicure style, but instead of white tips, it was yellow tartan. On each nail, there was a letter in a gothic font spelling out “No Doubt,” along with 3D hearts and silver gemstones. We can only describe the look as B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

Ishizu used products from Aprés Nails to create the singer's tartan French manicure. She started with the Gel-X Sculpted Square tips ($30) in extra-long and added a base coat of Fairy Wings ($15). For the plaid pattern, she used the colors London Squeeze, Fire Island, French White, and French Black ($15 each).

The rest of her glam was just as iconic. Stefani opted for a slicked-back style with two braided top knots, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Suzette Boozer. She did her own makeup, adding gemstones on the top of her brow, which was a nod to her 1998 VMA’s look. She wore her signature black cat eye with a blue twist using her brand GXVE's Line It Up Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner ($20) in the blue shade Bathwater with an equally red lip all using the I’m Still Here Longwear Clean Matte Liquid Lipstick ($24) in the shade Original Recipe

Throughout the performance, Stefani and No Doubt played through their hits like "Just a Girl" and "Hella Good." Gen-Z pop queen Olivia Rodrigo also joined Stefani on stage with similar top knots and glam to perform the song "Bathwater." Rodrigo's look also paid homage to Stefani's '90s style, proving the singer's longtime influence.
