Gwen Stefani seems to have it all going on: she’s returning as a judge on The Voice and killing it in her “Just a Girl” residency in Las Vegas. But the star singer is facing the same challenge parents everywhere struggle with in September: an empty house. Stefani’s youngest son has started kindergarten — and she’s not happy about it.

“I got a baby in kindergarten now and that was devastating,” Stefani told Entertainment Tonight about her youngest son, five-year-old Apollo. “But he’s so excited and he’s doing so well.”

Apollo’s two older brothers, Kingston, 13, and Zuma, 11, are now in junior high, Stefani added, saying of her three sons with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, “God gave me all three boys. I’ve always been surrounded by boys.”

But the former No Doubt frontwoman, 49, is hardly staying home alone. Her Vegas residency runs through November, and The Voice kicks off its 17th season on September 23rd. After five years, Stefani joins Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and her boyfriend of four years, Blake Shelton, on the NBC series.

Shelton, whom Stefani met on The Voice in 2015, is ready for some healthy competition with his girlfriend, saying, “Of course, I’m not going to let her win. I’m going to have to win, but I’m going to have to do it in a way that she doesn’t feel like I beat her….This will be her fourth time on the show, so she’s no stranger to it. She knows what she’s doing.”

Offscreen, the country singer is reportedly very close with Stefani’s three sons. ET Online reported over the summer that Shelton has made the boys a huge priority in his life, and that he enjoys doing things like going to the movies, fishing and camping with them.

But Stefani and ex-husband Rossdale, who divorced in 2015 are focused on successful co-parenting, recently ensuring the boys would spend Father’s Day with their dad. And while Shelton and Stefani reportedly took a significant step forward in their relationshipby buying a house together in California, they’ve never confirmed if wedding bells are in their future. At the very least, living with her beau should help with Stefani’s back-to-school sadness.
