Gwen Stefani couldn’t hold back the tears when she married husband Blake Shelton in 2021.

During a recent interview with Today, the singer and GXVE Beauty founder, 54, recounted one particularly emotional moment during the couple’s nuptials which took her by surprise.

“I never thought I was going to be getting married. That’s just insane that that happened,” she told the outlet. “I do my vows and I’m like literally bawling, I didn’t have a makeup artist I did my own makeup and completely all the makeup came off and so then [Blake] goes, 'I know that you're always on me about not writing songs...' So all of a sudden, guitar out of nowhere, he plays me this song he writes me. I'm bawling."

Stefani recently opened up to PEOPLE about the couple’s romance.

"I didn't see any of this coming with Blake. This was just a big old 'What?' It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time," she said of falling for the country superstar, 47, and his down-home life after meeting in 2014 on the set of The Voice.

"He's changed my life ... when I [started dating] Blake, that's when I felt home, like, 'Oh, this is where I'm supposed to be, with this guy."

The couple has a home near Tishomingo, Oklahoma, where the family enjoys a quieter life.

"I am not really a dirt person, a bug person, I don't like that much humidity," jokes Stefani. "But it's so beautiful [in Oklahoma], and you kind of feel like you're going into this vortex. Nature — and God — is all right there."

Stefani recently praised her husband when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May, as she told the crowd he was her "dream come true."

"He's humble, he's genuine, and trust me, wherever we go, everybody feels like they know Blake Shelton," she said. "Blake, you are a rare human being and for all the success that you've had in your life as a singer, a songwriter, a musician, a performer and entertainer, an actor, a comedian, an entrepreneur, he's the same guy today as he was back then. A country guy with a love for country music. He's magnetic, the most generous person you'll ever know and always just him. No matter where he goes, making people happy, laugh, making jokes."

As Stefani wrapped her speech, Shelton proudly said "That's my wife" and they shared a hug and a kiss.

The "God's Country" singer later praised Stefani in his own speech, saying that marrying her was the greatest thing he ever did.

"I kind of stopped checking things off my list of great accomplishments in my life when I married Gwen, so this is just icing on the cake," he said.
