Gwen Stefani and her ex-Gavin Rossdale were married for 13 years and had three children when they got divorced amid rumors of Rossdale being unfaithful, so a messy split was pretty much unavoidable. While it may be water under the bridge now, especially as Stefani is remarried to country star Blake Shelton, Rossdale recently opened up about how he really feels about their divorce on an episode of Amy & TJ podcast. Keep reading to find out all the details.

Gavin Rossdale Speaks Of 'Clearest, Simplest Shame' After Divorce From Gwen Stefani

On the Mar. 2oth episode of Amy & TJ, Rossdale explained why he feels so much shame surrounding his divorce (hint: it's not because of his alleged affair...). "I never thought I'd ever get divorced," he said. "So there's a simple shame in my life." Rossdale's own parents got divorced when he was young, so he feels the same pain that his kids now do.

"I feel bad for my kids, that's it," he said. Rossdale and Stefani had three children together, Kington, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10. Rossdale also has a 35-year-old daughter, Daisy, from his previous relationship with Pearl Lowe.

"I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn't fun for me to come from a broken home... It can be quite debilitating for kids... the overriding thing is you don't want to let your kids down."

Gavin Rossdale Shades His Ex Gwen Stefani

Though he never mentions her by name, we detected just a hint of shade coming from the Bush lead guitarist. "The biggest thing would be when you see the kids that sometimes there's a loss," Rossdale continued. "It'd be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them with me."

He continued, not naming Gwen and Blake but pretty clearly referencing them: "I go to a lot of events where there's 'the other team,' so to speak, and I just feel really proud of myself in my consistency as a father. I know in my heart that I'm super consistent."

He stopped himself before saying anything too negative about his ex: "I'm handcuffed because I would never want to overly say anything negative about their mom. That's just not right."
