Father’s Day is just around the corner, and for many families, that means some quality father-offspring bonding is imminent. But for some families, Father’s Day also requires bit of flexibility. Take, for example, how Father’s Day for Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and her ex Gavin Rossdale will reportedly go down. Per HollywoodLife, the trio has come to a co-parenting agreement for the upcoming holiday that involves Stefani and Rossdale’s kids — Kingston, 12, Zuma, 10, and Apollo, 5 — spending the afternoon with their dad.

Coming to this decision may not have been entirely seamless, though, according to Hollywood Life’s source. “Gwen and Gavin have had a challenging time co-parenting,” the source claimed, noting that the former husband and wife “don’t see eye to eye on several things.” Still, despite any co-parenting hiccups, the two managed to put differences aside to come up with what they feel is the ideal arrangement for Father’s Day. “So, Gavin will have the kids on Father’s Day and both Gwen and Blake know that’s best for the kids as it’s his day. Gwen knows how much the boys love Gavin,” HollywoodLife’s insider said.

The source also pointed out that Shelton is on the same page as his girlfriend, saying, “Gwen and Blake are totally supportive and understanding of Gavin having the kids on Father’s Day as it’s his day and that’s their father.”

It’s readily apparent that, since they began dating in 2015, Shelton has grown close to Stefani’s kids — enjoying quality time together doing things like walking the red carpet with the boys and spending holidays with them. He isn’t “Dad,” but he does seem to be a bonus father figure. “Blake is simply Gwen’s boyfriend to them, but he’s so helpful with the kids and truly cares for them and is always there as an ear to listen and support Gwen as she deals with Gavin and issues that arise from co-parenting,” said the source.

Such issues apparently stem from Stefani taking on the brunt of the daily parenting minutiae. “She knows Gavin is a great dad when he’s with the kids, she just wishes she’d get a little more help when it comes to school, schedules, etc.,” said the source. “She gets frustrated and overwhelmed with it all sometimes as Gavin sometimes finds it challenging to balance career and kids. She really is the primary decision maker and truly is a super mom. Gwen is much better at it.”
