The Food Network star says he was partly inspired by Shaq: "Shaq said, 'If you want this cheese, you got to get to two degrees.'"

Guy Fieri has built an empire with his many shows and restaurants, but he has terms for his kids if they want to get a piece of that empire.

Fieri told Fox News he won't be giving his kids any of that money unless they head to school. "Shaq said it best," Fieri asserted. "Shaq said, 'If you want this cheese, you got to get to two degrees.' Well, my two degrees mean, you know, postgraduate."

He told his family, "I'm going to die broke." That family includes his sons Hunter and Ryder, as well as his nephew Jules, whom he has helped raise since the death of his sister in 2011.

The Guy's Grocery Games host hopes to instill a work ethic in his kids, just as his father did for him. "I've told them the same thing my dad told me. My dad says, 'When I die, you can expect that I'm going to die broke, and you're going to be paying for the funeral,'" he said. "And I told my boys, 'None of this that we've been... that I've been building are you going to get unless you come and take it from me.'"

There's no doubt about Fieri's work ethic, as he's been involved in more than two dozen Food Network shows, and his restaurant empire encompasses 17 brands, including Chicken Guy, Flavortown Kitchen, and Guy Fieri's American Kitchen & Bar.

Fieri says that Ryder, a high school senior, wasn't excited about the news. "'Dad, this is so unfair,'" he said. "'I haven't even gone to college yet, and you're already pushing that I've got to get an MBA? Can I just get through college?'"

Fieri's nephew is already on that path. "Jules is in the music industry down in L.A. He's in the law program at Loyola Marymount right now," Fieri said. "If you're going to be a big-time entertainment agent, you need to have that law background. So, he's doing that."

The same can be said for Fieri's eldest son, who is in the MBA program at the University of Miami.

Fieri recently signed a three-year contract with Food Network worth approximately $100 million, Variety reports. He will also host Guy's Flavortown Tailgate at the coming Super Bowl in Las Vegas. "I started at the Food Network almost 17, 18 years ago, and never thought anything like this was ever coming my way," he told PEOPLE earlier this month.
