Gunna returned to the stage for his first headlining performance since his release from prison with a show in Brooklyn this past weekend. On Saturday (Sept. 9), the rapper made the trek to the Barclays Center for the concert, which was dubbed “The Gift” after the title of his first post-prison album release.

During the show, Gunna voiced his support for Young Thug, who remains incarcerated as he awaits trial to face charges alleged in the YSL RICO indictment. At one point during the show, the Atlanta rapper performed several songs featuring Young Thug, including “Pushin P,” “Hot,” “Ski,” and “Oh Okay.”

While a number of fans reacted positively to the medley, others who remain skeptical of the relationship between Gunna and Thug given the nature of his guilty plea and ensuing “snitching” allegations were non-plussed by the gestures. These included a graphic reading “Free Jeffrey” across the screens behind Gunna onstage, as well as him shouting “Free Slime!” in a show of solidarity with his embattled collaborator.

According to attendees, the concert included an elaborate stage setup and documentary footage recounting Gunna’s rise, fall, and return to prominence over the course of his career. The show featured opening sets from Flo Milli and DDG and saw Gunna teaming up with PLUS1 and nonprofit organization Goodr for The Gift. The rapper donated a portion of the proceeds to The Goodr Foundation, which “strives to end world hunger by cultivating countless resources.”

Earlier this year, Gunna released his fourth studio album A Gift & a Curse, the rapper’s first full-length project since returning home from prison in December 2022. The album was a commercial and critical success, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and producing the hit singles “fukumean” and “Bread & Butter.”
