With the revival of the Star Wars universe, some of Hollywood’s best and most popular filmmakers — including J.J. Abrams and The Lego Movie’s Chris Miller and Phil Lord — are getting the chance to live out their childhood dreams and direct movies in the hallowed franchise. Those names have fans’ anticipation at a fevered pitch, but excitement would hit another level if geek god Guillermo del Toro got his chance to tell a story in the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

And, what do you know, del Toro, whose gothic romance film Crimson Peak hits theaters on Oct. 16, already knows what kind of Star Wars film he’d want to make.

“This is not real, this is me as a fat geek just geeking out and talking about it,” del Toro told Yahoo Movies on Friday, cautious to make sure he didn’t create some very false rumors. “I would do the sort of Godfather saga that Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. One, because it’s the character that looks the most like me, and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt type of mafia, a very complex coup. I just love the character.”

Jabba, the Tattooine-based gangster, doesn’t get much backstory in the original trilogy, though comic books have filled in the blanks over the years. del Toro, of course, has plenty of experience turning comics into successful movies — see Hellboy — and so while this is just a pie-in-the-sky fantasy, we certainly would not mind seeing it actually happen.
