‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Put on Hold After James Gunn Firing, as Dave Bautista Trolls Disney on Twitter
Following director James Gunn’s firing due to the resurfacing of old tweets, production on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” has been put on hold. Marvel and Disney informed nearly 20 crew members who were in Los Angeles for pre-production that they were free to seek other work, according to Variety, and neither company has yet to comment on the matter.
Gunn, who wrote and directed the first two highly popular installments in the series, has received an outpouring of support from collaborators and fans alike; a petition calling on Disney to reinstate him received hundreds of thousands of signatures, and the main cast of “Guardians” wrote a letter in his defense.
That support comes not only because of Gunn’s statements on the tweets in question but the fact that the alt-right activists who unearthed them appear to have done so for political reasons and with exactly this outcome in mind. Nevertheless, Disney recently reaffirmed its decision.
Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the “Guardians” films as well as this year’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” has been Gunn’s most vocal proponent. His most recent angry tweet came just yesterday, when he once again called out Disney:
