The departures will set the stage for a revamped fifth season centered on returning stars Yara Shahidi (Zoey), Trevor Jackson (Aaron), Diggy Simmons (Doug) as well as a new crop of incoming students that includes the previously announced Junior Johnson (played by black-ish vet Marcus Scribner).
“Francia, Emily, Chloe, Halle, Luka and Jordan will always be a part of the -ish’ family. This new season isn’t a goodbye, we are just expanding the world; there will always be an open door for them to return,” said showrunners Zakiyyah Alexander and Courtney Lilly in a statement to TVLine. “For Season 5, we’re excited to dive deeper into the storylines of Zoey, Aaron and Doug in their post-grad adventures and welcome a new dynamic class to Cal-U, including Junior.”
grown-ish‘s Season 4 finale (read full recap here) ended with Zoey and Aaron relocating to New York, so it remains unclear what — or who? (we’re looking at you, Junior) — will bring them back to the West Coast in Season 5 (assuming that they do indeed move back to L.A.)
