Grierson Trust Bans Individual From Awards For 10 Years Following Antisemitic Incident

Britain’s most prestigious TV doc awards, the Griersons, has concluded its investigation into an individual following an antisemitic incident and banned the person for the next decade.

At the awards ceremony in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall earlier this month, an individual was reported by several attendees to have confronted up to three people after discovering they were Jewish. The first attendee approached had refused to discuss the Israel-Palestine situation, prompting the individual to seek out more Jewish attendees.

In the past few minutes, the Grierson Trust has said the individual, who has not been named, will be banned from the awards and other events organized by the trust for the next decade.

“Following our investigation into reports of anti-Jewish racism and antisocial behaviour by one individual at the reception after this year’s British Documentary Awards ceremony, The Grierson Trust is imposing a ban on the individual concerned attending the awards, and other events organised by us in any capacity for the next 10 years.” said a spokesman.

“The Grierson Trust is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the documentary industry, and to providing a safe space for everyone at our events and programmes.  We have a zero tolerance approach to racism of all kinds.”

The awards on November 9 came just over a month after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which has led to a huge spike of antisemitic and islamophobic incidents in the UK. A London march against antisemitism was attended over the weekend by around 100,000 people, including big names from the entertainment world and the likes of Boris and Carrie Johnson.
