Grey’s Anatomy Is Coming to Disney+ — What Does This Mean for Those Binge-Watching on Netflix?

Starting in March of 2024, the ongoings of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will be streaming on Disney+ for the very first time, TVLine has learned.

Streaming rights for the first 19 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy will be shared with Hulu and Netflix, and will be available via the bundled Disney app (Disney+ and Hulu) and the standalone Hulu service. Additionally, Hulu will maintain in-season rights to all ABC series, meaning it will be the only streamer to offer the entire run of Grey’s Anatomy, including the exclusive day-after availability of all upcoming Season 20 episodes. (The medical drama is set to return Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 9/8c on ABC; see the network’s full midseason schedule here.)

Disney is also licensing 14 other series to Netflix on a non-exclusive basis for 18 months each. These series will remain on the Disney platform they’re currently on (Disney+, ESPN+ or Hulu) and will pop up on Netflix on the following dates:

The Wonder Years: 1/1/2024
This is Us: 1/8/2024
My Wife & Kids: 2/5/2024
ESPN 30 for 30: Premiere dates for 25 episodes will vary between Feb-Dec
The Resident: 3/4/2024
White Collar: 4/1/2024
Reba: 5/6/2024
Archer: 5/13/2024
How I Met You Mother: 6/3/2023
Lost: 7/1/2024
Prison Break: 7/29/2024
The Hughleys: 9/2/2024 (also coming to Hulu)
Bernie Mac: 1/1/2025
Home Improvement: 2/1/2025

As streamers shift toward a renewed focus on profitability, sharing content through licensing brings in an additional revenue stream. While certain series like Prison Break are “now ready for new and wider audiences via expansion of their presence beyond Hulu,” Disney states it is “intentionally and strategically” holding back its most successful library IP — like Family Guy, for example — which will remain exclusive to Hulu.

As Disney modifies its strategy, which streamers will you be subscribing to? And which shows will you stream on Netflix? Let us know in the comments.
