Greenville Theatre Works, Greenville Family Theater to both stage productions in November

Oct. 27—Both of Greenville's theatre companies — Greenville Theatre Works and Greenville Family Theater — have fall shows coming out next month with productions of "The Glass Menagerie" and "The Secret Garden," respectively.

Greenville Theatre Works' production of "The Glass Menagerie" tells the story of a single mother and her two young adult children. The themes it explores include gender roles, escapism, responsibility to family and unfulfilled desires.

"Don't miss out on this captivating tale of dreams, family and the power of memory," a Facebook post from Greenville Theatre Works said. "The Wingfield family's story will unfold on our stage and we can't wait to share this unforgettable experience with you."

"The Glass Menagerie" will be performed at the Texan Theater, and showtimes are:

—Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

—Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.

—Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, Greenville Family Theater's production of a musical adaptation of "The Secret Garden" is set in the late 19th- to early 20th century and is about a young spoiled girl named Mary who was neglected by her parents but waited on hand and foot by servants until both of her parents died from cholera. She then moves to her uncle's house, which has a hidden garden on its grounds that he has kept locked since his wife (Mary's aunt) died a few years before. Mary eventually finds the hidden key and door to the garden, which she and some friends she meets at her new home work to restore.

Themes in "The Secret Garden" include healing, growth, the power of mindset and the meaning of friendship.
