Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce to host Job fair in Thousand Oaks
Nearly 40 employers are expected at a job fair Wednesday hosted by the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The event, in its second year, aims to pair area businesses with job seekers who can attend free.
“Many local businesses are in need of talent across a variety of industries," chamber President/CEO Danielle Borja said in a statement. "The job fair will convene employers and job seekers in one location to support these workforce needs."
This year's fair – 9 a.m. to noon at The Gardens at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks – offers a space for employers to showcase their business and an area to conduct in-person interviews if needed.
Borja said Monday that employers in attendance run the gamut of industries from banking, insurance and health care as well as public agencies such as school districts and cities.
Between 100 and 125 candidates attended in 2021 and several were offered jobs on the spot with the caveat that all their paperwork was successfully completed, she said.
The president/CEO said last year's fair was borne of necessity. Coming out of the pandemic, employers faced a shortage in the labor market, and the chamber became the "connector."
Borja described the job fair as unique for those seeking employment because they get the face-to-face experience with a potential business where they otherwise may submit a resume through a job portal site.
Workers looking for a change or those on the hunt have the upper hand, she noted.
"It's really competitive out there as far as wages," she said. "... People are more willing to make a move."
The chamber hosted the fair for the first time in 2021. Based on the positive feedback, Borja said the chamber decided to host another fair this year.
"Last year was very successful, very rewarding for employers as well as job seekers," said Cindy Giordano, the chamber's director of marketing and events."
