Yet Another Streaming Service
We're about to reach the perfect storm of new streaming services, and one of the new frontrunners is HBO Max. Different than HBO Now/Go, the new platform will offer a wide selection of classic content as well as a number of new straight-to-series shows, including a Gossip Girl reboot, a Practical Magic prequel, an animated Gremlins prequel, and The Boondocks reboot.
A 'Grease' Spinoff Is On The Way
On top of all that, HBO Max announced on Tuesday that Grease: Rydell High, a new musical spinoff series based on the high school in the films Grease and Grease 2, got a full season order and will hit the service sometime next year.
At this point, it's unclear whether it will focus on the classic characters like Sandy and Danny, but Bustle reports that it will take place in the 1950s, and "the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds still rule the school."
What To Expect
According to the press release, the series will feature "some characters you already know, and a whole lot more you will soon meet." Additionally, fans should expect lots and lots of period appropriate music, including "big musical numbers from the period combined with new original songs."
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, explained:
"This is high school and life in small-town USA told on the scale of a big rock’n’roll musical. It’s Grease 2.0 but with the same spirit, energy, and excitement you immediately think of when you hear any of these iconic songs. You’re the One That I Want!"
Will you be hopelessly devoted to this new series or do you want it to keep its filthy paws off your silky drawers?
