“I Want More” isn’t just the title of the standout song in Season 1 of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. It’s also what fans of the Paramount+ prequel to the 1978 movie musical were left crying upon learning in June that the series had been cancelled. Not only that, but it was being altogether removed from the streaming platform. (It has since been made available for digital purchase and is getting a DVD release in November.)

It would be bad enough, too, just to know that we won’t get to return to Rydell High with Jane, Olivia & Co. — even after Grease made the Emmy honor roll by scoring two nominations for its stellar choreography. But what takes the situation from majorly disappointing to downright distressing is the fact that the show left us with so many suspenseful cliffhangers. Was Richie going to stay in military school? Had Gil really moved on from his crush on Olivia? Would Cynthia be brave enough to come out to more of her fellow Pink Ladies than Nancy?

And these aren’t even the questions that we want answered so badly that they made it onto our Season 2 wish list! To see which ones did make the cut, keep scrolling, then hit the comments with the Pink Lady business that you consider unfinished.

The Detonation of a Blast From the Past

In the last few seconds of Season 1’s finale (recapped here), Gil introduced the gang to his old pal from New York, one Frankie Zuko. But we only saw his hand — what a tease! — and weren’t given any clue about how, exactly, he’s related to John Travolta’s movie character. What’s more, there’s obviously a juicy story behind Jane’s shocked reaction to his arrival. “I said I never wanted to see you again,” she hollered, “and I meant it!”

New Life for ‘Romeo’ and ‘Juliet’

From the moment that Buddy and Hazel started having their starlit heart-to-hearts, we were all in on their slow-burn flirtation. So we were not at all prepared for the show’s cancellation to snuff it out! We were — and remain — dying for the former BMOC to confess his feelings for the girl next door and kiss her without an auditorium full of parents and peers watching them perform Shakespeare. (Sorry, Wally.)

Love as a Many Splendored Thing

Cynthia’s realization that she’s not just a thespian but a lesbian was a Season 1 highlight. (Ari Notartomaso’s work in the sensitively handled story arc even earned them an Honorable Mention in our Performer of the Week column.) But what was going to happen next? Would Cynthia be able to hold secret girlfriend Lydia’s attention when she hears the siren song of her first love, the stage?

The Reveal of Potato’s Half-Baked Idea

Season 1 ended with odd couple Nancy and Potato committed to being Rydell’s most combustible twosome — and his keeping a major secret from his girlfriend. Would she ever be able to forgive him if she found out that he’d only pretended to be her secret admirer? And worse, that he’d known almost from the start that her mystery suitor was actually… her parents? We can only hope so.

The Rise of the Next Pink Ladies

Sick of being treated like babies by the T-Birds and Pink Ladies, Rizzo and Frenchy decided to start their own gang at the conclusion of the series’ freshman year. “The kids from Washington Jr. are way cooler, anyway,” Betty noted. “And the girls from St. Bernadette’s lower school are tough as nails.” Which begs the question: How would these two innocents — at least for now — accomplish their lofty goal? There are no worse things the streamer could do than keep us in the dark.
