'The Grand Tour' trailer: See Jeremy Clarkson in his new Scandi adventure

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are back on the road for the first time since the pandemic and their new series of The Grand Tour sees them headed for the Arctic Circle.

Season five of the Prime Video motor show is The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick and the first-look trailer gives a sneak peek at what's to come from the trio's Scandinavian adventure.

In highlights from the new series, Clarkson is seen setting fire to a severely iced-up car in a snowy landscape in an effort to defrost the vehicle, but quickly realises he has overdone it with the flames.

Challenges include trailing large items such as a bus stop and a shed containing Hammond across the ice, while another clip shows daredevil skiers standing on one leg atop moving cars.

The show's stars are travelling from the coast of Norway to the Russian border, with their fair share of sticky situations along the way - in one scene, they look panicked as a fleet of armed military boats passes them, while in another they sheepishly leave a museum exhibit that they had spent a night in believing it to be a shelter.

May recently told the Radio Times that he felt retirement wasn't far off for him after losing a close friend who had taken early retirement to spend more time with his family.

He said: “It was quite interesting thinking about that after he’d gone because it takes a certain amount of courage to say, ‘No, I don’t want to telegraph my success and my sophistication. I simply want to have a nice life and contemplate the mystery and wonder of God’s creation.’”

When asked if he is planning to retire and sell off his cars, May added: “It’s something I’m quietly contemplating, and I suspect it’s not far off.”

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick begins streaming on Prime Video on 16 September.
