Grammys: Fantasia Barrino, Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox Honor Tina Turner, Tony Bennett, Sinead O’Connor During In Memoriam Tribute

Stevie WonderAnnie Lennox, Fantasia Barrino and Jon Batiste helped pay tribute to late musical icons during Sunday’s 2024 Grammys.

Tina Turner, Tony Bennett, Sinead O’Connor and Clarence Avant were remembered in emotional performances by the group of singers, each performing a hit song from each of the artists.

Wonder kicked off the tribute to Bennett onstage with a mash-up performance of “For Once In My Life” and “The Best Is Yet To Come.”

Sinead O’Connor was honored by Lennox with a performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” who was also joined by Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, the Grammy-and-Emmy-winning musicians who played in Prince’s band The Revolution. (Prince also wrote the song.) At the end of her performance, Lennox called for a ceasefire and peace in the world.

Batiste honored music executive Clarence Avant with a performance introduced by Lenny Kravitz. Batiste performed a medley of “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lean On Me” and “Optimistic,” featuring Ann Nesby.

The Color Purple producer Oprah Winfrey introduced Barrino, who honored Turner with a sparkly performance of “Proud Mary.” Barrino took the performance into the audience, dancing with the likes of Dua Lipa and Beyoncé.

For this year’s Grammys, female acts make up seven of the eight nominees in the top three categories — with SZA leading with nine overall nominations followed by Victoria Monét and Phoebe Bridgers with seven nominations. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo earned six nominations apiece.

Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo were among the musicians who took the stage at the ceremony.

The Grammy Awards aired live from L.A. on Sunday on CBS and Paramount+ With Showtime. Trevor Noah hosted.
