Grammys 2020: Tool’s “7empest” Wins Best Metal Performance

Tool’s song “7empest” has won the 2020 Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The band beat Death Angel (“Humanicide”), I Prevail (“Bow Down”), Killswitch Engage (“Unleashed”) and Candlemass featuring Tony Iommi (“Astorolus - The Great Octopus”) for the trophy. In his acceptance speech, drummer Danny Carey paid tribute to the late Rush drummer Neil Peart.

“7empest” appears on Tool’s fifth album Fear Inoculum, which came out in September. The band was also nominated for Best Rock Song for Fear Inoculum’s title track. Fear Inoculum is Tool’s first album in 13 years, following 2006’s 10,000 Days. The win today marks the third time Tool have won Best Metal Performance. They won in 2002 for “Schism” and in 1998 for “Ænema.”
