'Twas a night full of surprises, soulful tributes and speeches, and Silk Sonic.

Anderson .Paak, one half of the R&B duo who opened the night with a show-stopping performance, proclaimed Silk Sonic's "sweep" of the night during their acceptance speech for record of the year. Their hit song "Leave the Door Open" also won for song of the year and best R&B performance (in a tie with Jazmine Sullivan's "Pick Up Your Feelings").

Pop princess and first time Grammy nominee Olivia Rodrigo — who had 7 nominations from her hit album Sour — won best new artist, best pop vocal album, and best pop solo performance.

Jon Batiste, the most nominated artist of the night (he had 11), took home the coveted album of the year for his soulful We Are. In his acceptance speech, Batiste said that making music is a "spiritual practice" for him: "I believe this to my core, there is no best musician, best artist, best dancer, best actor … the creative arts are subjective and they reach people at a point in their lives when they need it most." Batiste took home a total of 5 awards, including best music video for "Freedom."

The Academy paid a touching tribute to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away in March. Billie Eilish performed her hit "Happier Than Ever" (alongside her brother and best new artist nominee Finneas) wearing a black t-shirt with a picture of Hawkins on it.

The performances ranged from electric to emotionally-charged: BTS were undercover agents, smooth as "Butter" for their performance of their hit song, H.E.R., Lenny Kravitz, and Travis Barker rocked out to "Are You Gonna Go My Way," and Lady Gaga gave a breathtaking jazz performance in honor of the great Tony Bennett. Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Ben Platt, and Rachel Zegler performed a moving tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim during the In Memoriam segment.

The lyrics to Grammy winner Harry Styles' new song "As It Was" apply perfectly to the 2022 Grammy Awards, which aired live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas: "You know it's not the same as it was."

Originally set to take place in January, the date for this year's ceremony was pushed back due to COVID-19 concerns and the location was changed from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. The Recording Academy also added two new categories — Best Global Music Performance and Best Música Urbana Album — and they changed the general field categories, recognizing 10 nominees for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.

Check out all of the winners from this year's ceremony.
