In a battle between two Ohio ice cream chains, only one shop can come out on top.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams finally opened its first Greater Cincinnati location in Norwood's Factory 52 in July. And with the famous Columbus-based brand now taking residence in the Queen City, many people are wondering how Jeni's compares to Cincinnati's pride and joy: Graeter's Ice Cream.

There are many differences between the two creameries. Graeter's is a family-owned company and has been producing classic French pot ice cream in Ohio for nearly 150 years. Jeni's, however, was founded in 2002 by James Beard Award-winning ice cream maker Jeni Britton and is known for its 25 unique flavors inspired by art, history and pop culture.

Both chains have dedicated followings and are often touted as the best ice cream parlor in Ohio. So we set out to determine which Ohio-based creamery is superior.

For this taste test, we pitted Graeter's Dutch Milk Chocolate ice cream against Jeni's Milkiest Chocolate. All our testers could taste which was which, but the opinion on the better ice cream leaned heavily in one direction: three chose Graeter's, one picked Jeni's.
