Grade the Steelers signing G Isaac Seumalo

Just when you thought the Steelers were done signing former Philadelphia Eagles guards, Saturday night they signed one more. Pittsburgh signed free agent Isaac Seumalo to a three-year contract which followed the Steelers signed guard Nate Herbig.

Comparing Seumalo to the other guards on the roster, the only guard we’d rate higher is James Daniels. He was the best offensive lineman on the Steelers last season. If Seumalo is that good, he’s the starting left guard from day one. This means this signing is an A, right? Maybe but not so fast.

The Steelers signed Herbig to a starter-level contract ahead of Seumalo. They signed Seumalo to one as well. If the plan was to sign Seumalo, why bother with Herbig? Kevin Dotson hasn’t been great but he’s more than adequate to be a backup. Now the Steelers have Herbig, Seumalo, Dotson and Kendrick Green and two probably won’t make the team.

Cast your vote and tell us what grade you give the signing. If the team hadn’t signed Herbig first, this one is an easy A. Instead, we give the signing a B and hope the team has a plan for what to do with the rest of the players under contract.
