The trio “really don’t see each other that much because Millie and Maddie are out doing their thing, I’m out doing my thing, we’re all over the map,” she continues. “But I think it’s still kind of like that special bond of the ‘no one understands us’ kind of thing that we can relate over.”

The America’s Got Talent winner also opened up about how she stays uplifted in the music industry, saying, “I think the main thing is just to try your best to stay positive. It’s too easy to let yourself flip what’s happened and start thinking about the negative, like ‘I wish I had friends, I wish I could go to school,’ and it’s so easy to forget the blessings that you have with this. And I think the main thing is just surround yourself [with people, things] that reminds you of those blessings.”

In the interview, which you can watch in full above, VanderWaal also reveals that touring has been the standout moment of her past year, chats about her admiration for Kelly Clarkson and expresses nerves over possibly meeting Ed Sheeran.
