Susan: Joe Biden gave a one hour speech yesterday and took questions from reporters. He spoke mostly about dealing with the coronavirus but also discussed the Russian bounty fiasco and the taking down of statues, etc. I am a moderate Democrat and I agreed with everything he said. His delivery wasn’t perfect, but it never was. But he was still very good. He is not a gifted extemporaneous speaker like Andrew Cuomo or Gavin Newsom, but neither is Trump. Joe has committed to the three debates and cannot wait for them, or so he said. It was so nice to hear a voice of reason instead of the usual bombastic and divisive rhetoric we have grown used to. As for confederate monuments, Joe said they should have been taken down long ago and placed in museums. These men fought to keep their right to own slaves. They are not heroes. I agree with that. As for Washington and Jefferson, they they didn’t start a war to keep folks enslaved. They fought to create a democracy. They were successful in that endeavor. Luckily, the confederacy failed, but it is not something to celebrate or commemorate.
