'Will & Grace' or Grace vs. Karen?

Are feuds backstage the cause of the show's cancellation?

I am a huge Will & Grace fan. You can play any episode from its original run (1998-2006) and I can likely recite every line. While not thrilled with the latest reboot, it felt like going home… like my friends were back. I tried to ignore the myriad of articles about backstage feuds between Megan Mullally (Karen) and Debra Messing (Grace), and Mullally and well, everyone else, but with all the recent headlines, it's hard to continue turning a blind eye. Let's back up.

Earlier this year, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Megan Mullally and Debra Messing stopped following each other on Instagram. Mullally fueled the fires even further when she posted, "One of the best feelings is finally losing your attachment to somebody who isn't good for you!" Everyone assumed that was directed towards Messing. Mullally has since stopped following co-star Sean Hayes as well. Of the "core four" Mullally only follows Eric McCormack (Will). Eric and Sean still follow all of their main cast members, with Debra following only the boys.

While we should all know that social media isn't everything, in October it was announced that Megan Mullally would miss two episodes of the final season. According to TVLine, Mullally requested a "temporary leave of absence." This came after she allegedly butted heads with everyone over everything.

Messing wasn't the only one who received Mullally's wrath. From a source, "She alienated everybody with her diva behavior. Her outrageous demands behind the scenes caused constant delays in production. She treated everyone like servants. Debra was the only one who stood up to Megan."

Sources say the writers were "Team Debra" and Mullally's screen time reflected that. In this season's premiere, Mullally had one tiny scene (the last scene) with the rest of the cast, otherwise, she was siloed, in scenes completely by herself. In subsequent episodes, however, she has had scenes with all main cast members.

Allegedly, Warner Bros warned Mullally that she would be booted if she didn't get along better with her co-stars. According to an insider, Megan did not respond well to this. "Megan went into meltdown mode when she got called on the carpet. She had her therapist write a letter telling them she was suffering from 'emotional issues' and needed time to rest." She used her time away from the show to help promote her husband's, fellow actor Nick Offerman, new book The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.

Calm After the Storm? A new post on the show's Instagram, taken by co-creator Max Mutchnik, has the core four hugging. The caption? "Family group hug."

Hopefully, Mullally's time away allowed everyone to regroup. For the sake of us mega fans, we would hate the show and its legacy tainted by behind the scenes drama.
