Gov. Gavin Newsom Says Taylor Swift’s Influence on 2024 Election Will Be ‘Profoundly Powerful’: She ‘Stands Tall and Unique’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom thinks that Taylor Swift will be a major influence in the forthcoming 2024 presidential election.

“Taylor Swift stands tall and unique,” Newsom told TMZ. “What she was able to accomplish in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and they should have a voice in the next election, I think it’s profoundly powerful.”

On National Voter Registration Day, Swift took to her Instagram — which has a following of over 272 million — to urge Swifities to do so. She shared a link to Vote.org, a non-profit voting registration platform and organization which she has partnered with in the past.

“I’ve been so lucky to see so many of you guys at my U.S. shows recently,” her statement read. “I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are. Make sure you’re ready to use them in our elections this year!”

“I think she’s using her celebrity [status] for good,” Newsom added to TMZ. “Republicans are critical of her encouraging people to register to vote, which says everything you need to know about the voter suppression going on in the Republican party.”

Swift’s loyal fanbase has backed her time and time again, whether that be through Spotify streams or album sales. She’s the first female artist to cross 100 million monthly Spotify listeners, a feat boosted by the recent release of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” which debuted at No. 1.

Swifties are currently gearing up to experience her “Eras Tour” concert film, which earned a whopping $26 million in AMC Theatres presales in a single day (breaking the previous record of $16.9 million held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home”). The film opens in theaters Oct. 13, followed by the album release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” on Oct. 27.
