‘Gotham’ Sneak Peek: Hugo Strange and Captain Barnes Return… on Opposite Sides of the Syringe

It looks like The Executioner may not have as active a role in the judgement of Gotham as he was hoping. Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) — former head of the GCPD and current resident of Arkham Asylum — is about to be recruited by the Council of Owls, but, in typically gruesome Gotham fashion, they only need bits of him.

In this exclusive clip from next Monday’s episode, “Light the Wick,” Barnes is strapped down like Hannibal Lecter. Kathryn (Leslie Hendrix) compliments him on his work, and even though their interests align, they won’t necessarily be working together. They want the virus he was infected with by Alice Tetch — the one that gives him rage-induced super-strength. Surely a returning Hugo Strange (BD Wong) — with his stellar bedside manner and history of treating patients well — will be gentle with him? Given the menacing way Strange is handling that monstrous needle, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
