‘Gotham’ Renewed by Fox for Fifth and Final Season

Good news, bad news, Batman fans: Fox has renewed drama series “Gotham” for a fifth season — but it’ll be the last. This final run will wrap up the origin story of the DC Comics super-villains, studio Warner Bros. promised on Sunday.

“The final season will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the caped crusader,” Fox said in announcing its Season 5 news.

Executive produced by Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon and John Stephens, “Gotham” stars Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, and Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/The Riddler.

Also key to the cast are Jessica Lucas (Tabitha Galavan), Chris Chalk (Lucius Fox), Drew Powell (Butch Gilzean/Solomon Grundy, Alexander Siddig (Ra’s Ah Ghul), and Crystal Reed (Sofia Falcone).

“Gotham,” which debuted back in 2014, had Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney for 28 early episodes.

Season-to-date, the Dark Knight prequel series is averaging a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49, which includes a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available. That’s not a particularly great Nielsen number, but it’s OK for Fox.

Earlier today, Fox announced a renewal for “Lethal Weapon,” which will effectively replace fired star Clayne Crawford with Seann William Scott of “American Pie” infamy — yeah, he played Stifler.
