'I got a soft spot for Haiti': Cardi B shares her support for Haiti after tragic earthquake

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti Saturday, celebrities took to social media to show their support.

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake rippled through several cities in Haiti leaving more than 1,400 dead and thousands more injured. With homes and hospitals destroyed, there is an urgent need for supplies and humanitarian aid. When a similar earthquake hit the island 11 years ago, support also poured out from dozens of celebrities who lead charity drives and relief efforts.

Over the weekend, celebrities including Cardi B emphasized the resilience of the Haitian community.

"I got a soft spot for Haiti and it's people. They my cousins," she wrote in an Aug. 14 tweet. "I pray for Haiti they go thru soo much. God please cover that land and it's people."

Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean also uploaded a video to Instagram encouraging his followers to support the people of Haiti. "Let’s all keep doing our part for Haiti" the rapper said in the post's caption.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka, whose father is Haitan, pledged to donate her prize money from the upcoming Western and Southern Open she will play in. In the Aug. 14 tweet, Osaka wrote: "Really hurts to see all the devastation that's going on in Haiti and I feel like we really can't catch a break."

She continued, "I know our ancestors is strong and we'll keep rising."

Reality TV star Bethenny Frankel shared on Twitter that she secured 1.4 million in medical supplies, food, and other aid equipment through her BStrong initiative in partnership with Global Empowerment Mission.

"We will be working on rescue, recovery and rebuild throughout September," she wrote in a follow-up tweet.

Actor and singer-songwriter Lin Manuel Miranda announced on Twitter Monday that he is donating to two organizations – Fonkoze, Haiti's largest microfinance institution serving low income communities, and Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), a non-profit founded by actor Sean Penn in response to the 2010 earthquake – to support relief efforts.

"My thoughts are with the people of Haiti following this weekend’s massive earthquake," he wrote, urging his followers to "please consider giving a donation as well, if you can."

Rapper Rick Ross sent a similar message, writing, "Haiti birth some of the strongest spirits and people I know."

The Queen of England, Elizabeth II, shared her condolences in a statement shared to the Royal Family's official Twitter account Monday.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquake in Haiti," the statement read. "My thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost their lives, loved ones and homes, as well as the emergency services working in the recovery effort."
